2020.10.18 20:37 KendrickAiFanfictionKendrick AI Fanfiction Part 2: Now with less NSFW
So, I decided to start over to get a not NSFW story, It was good at first, but then it got worse. not an NSFW worse, but the AI basically broke. It starts the same but key differences make it better and worse. You are Kendrick Lamar, an American rapper, songwriter, and record producer. Considered by many to be one of the greatest musicians of all time, You have frequently been regarded as one of the most influential artists of your generation, as well as one of the greatest rappers and lyricists of all time. As a musician, You have released over 100 albums in your career. Most notably Your debut album "Good Kid m.A.A.d City" > You say "Hey Jay Rock, you want to do a song?" Kendrick Lamar: Hey Jay Rock, you want to do a song? You: Yeah, I think it'd be cool if we did something." Jay Rock: "I don't know man. That's my boy Kendrick Lamar. You say "yes. want to do a song with you, me Schoolboy Q, and Ab-Soul?" Jay Rock: Yes, i do. I think that'd be sick." You smile and nod your head. You: "Cool!" Jay Rock: "Yeah, let me finish this verse and we can get to it. You make a song. It takes about an hour. Your song is better than Jay Rock's, and Jay Rock isn't a household name so you get the upper hand. He isn't discouraged though. He's in the booth for about an hour after that, he is very friendly and kind. While he might be a little arrogant, he is a cool cat once you get to know him. You take a few pictures with him and Jay Rock and his brother before they leave. It's late by the time you and your friends wrap up your work for the day. You go your separate ways, though Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul and Jay Rock all plan on meeting up at the Grammy Museum after they leave work. You on the other hand are going home to get some rest before your big night. The day of the Grammy's is tomorrow, and you've got a lot to do. You need to meet up with your label-mate's, pick up your Grammy dresses, do another interview or two, go to the Grammys, go to a party afterwards, and then come back for the Award Show. You're feeling pretty confident about your chances tomorrow. Not only are you nominated in 10 categories, but you're also favored in 9 of those. Still, it's not going to be easy, anyone can win . As you think about your possibilities for the rest of the day, you realize that this is probably your last chance to go out. After tomorrow you're going to be stuck in the studio a lot more, so you might as well go out with some co-workers on a last hurrah. Plus, you know the guys you're working with and you're on good terms with most of them, so there won't be any drama like last time. That evening you head out to go see your friends. Later... You go out to see all your friends from Top Dawg Entertainment. Jay Rock, Schoolboy Q, Ab-Soul, SZA, Zacari, Reason, and the rest are waiting outside the building. You take a look at your phone, and you see that you're a few minutes late. They must be wondering what restaurant you're going to go to. Jay Rock: Want to go get that place across the street? SZA: no, i went there. it was disguisting Schoolboy Q: Nah man, let's go to this one. The food takes like 10 minutes to come out. You: Mmmm, i like that idea. Okay. You all head to a local diner, which is pretty crowded for being so late at night. Everyone grabs a table while you order a meal. In the corner of your eye, you see Drake. He sees you and waves. You wave back. He sits down at the table with you guys, but he's alone. He doesn't order anything, instead he just flashes a smile at all of you. Drake: What up, Kendrick? You: What up, Drake? Drake: I haven't seen you in awhile. You going to the grammy's? You: Yea, I'm nominated in 10 categories. Drake: Wow, really? Congrats man! You: Yea, that's why I'm going out tonight. I'm out to celebrate. I'm also going to the grammy's so I can win. Drake: That's awesome! will you try and beat me? You: Haha, I don't think so. Drake: (with a serious tone) I will if you don't show up. You: (Smiling) No, I'll be there. The waiter comes with everyone's food and you all start eating. Drake is telling you about his new club, OVO. He says you should all go there to hang out sometime. Jay Rock then asks where you're going, so you tell him. Jay and Drake start exchanging stories about their own plans for the night. Jay Rock: I'm just happy that i got nominated for an award. Drake: Yea, that was my goal for the year. SZA: I'm just happy to be nominated. All of a sudden, there is an announcement on the loud speaker. Annoucer: Flower Boy is the greatest song ever. All of you: WHAT?! Drake: (Starts laughing) After the announcement, your group leaves the diner. Everyone is pretty drunk by now. You take a taxi to some hotel and proceed to get equally wasted. It's going to be a good night. The next day, you have to go back to the studio. When you arrive, you find that you have a few extra things to take care of. 40 minutes later... You exit the elevator and enter the offices of 'Aftermath Entertainment'. You're at the right place, but this is a bit strange. The secretary looks up and smiles. Secretary: Hey, Mr. Duckworth! How are you? You: I'm good. I have to see Mr. Dre, is he available? Secretary: Yea, he's in his office. Just head on past the janitors closet and up the stairs. 15 minutes later... You knock on the door and hear a gruff voice respond. Dr. Dre: Come in. You open the door and see your idol and friend. He's wearing denims and a black V-neck tee shirt.. Dr. Dre: (Still groggy) What's up, kid? You and Dr Dre start to talk about seats to the Grammy Awards. You realize that you're going to have to choose who you want to sit with. You: Hmmm... I guess i'm picking SZA this time. Dr. Dre: Well, ok. I was going to sit with Eminem You: Cool. Dr. Dre: Ok. I'm going to go change out of these sweats. You: OK. I'll see you in a bit. You leave and head to the studio. Once inside, you open up your laptop and go onto 'Tidal'. You browse through the artist you follow and find one you'd like to listen too. Anderson .Paak is a new artist to you, but after the first song, you can tell he's going to be big. You two are labelmates as well. You should make a song together. You close your laptop and look for a beat to use. You find one on a Youtube page and preview it. You like the beat, but the hook isn't quite finished. You decide to find someone to do the hook, but not right now as the Grammy Awards start in 1 hours. You put on the track and get yourself ready. You grab a limo, and go to the awards show. Young Thug is playing on the radio. You have a blast at the Grammys, wining every single award of the night and dining with everyone. The party goes on for year, but the after effects catch up to you. Young thug comes up to you Young Thug: Jeffery Lamar Williams (born August 16, 1991), known professionally as Young Thug, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. He is considered to be one of the most influential rappers of his generation, with his music having heavily shaped contemporary trap music and inspired numerous artists. Known for his eccentric vocal style and fashion, he first received attention for his collaborations with rappers Birdman and Gucci Mane. Thug initially released a series of independent mixtapes beginning in 2011 with I Came from Nothing. In early 2013, he signed with Gucci Mane's 1017 Records, and later that year he released his label debut mixtape 1017 Thug to critical praise. It peaked at number 89 on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and was certified Gold by the RIAA. You: Young Thug received mainstream recognition in 2014 with the singles "Stoner" and "Danny Glover" in addition to appearances on several singles, including T.I.'s "About the Money", Tyga's "Hookah", and Rich Gang's "Lifestyle." That year, he also signed to Lyor Cohen's 300 Entertainment and collaborated on the mixtape Rich Gang: Tha Tour Pt. 1. In 2015, he released a number of mixtapes, including Barter 6 and two installments of his Slime Season series. These were followed in 2016 by the commercial mixtapes I'm Up, Slime Season 3, and Jeffery. In 2017, Thug featured on the hit song "Havana" by pop singer Camila Cabello, which became his first number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2018, he released a compilation album Slime Language with his label YSL Records. In 2019, he won the Grammy Award for Song of the Year for his songwriting contribution on "This Is America". Thug has been referenced or parodied in several mainstream articles and entertainment shows. He has also been the focus of academic studies. You: It's a beautiful summer's night. Young Thug: Young Thug's signature adlib is Slatt. Slatt slatt. You: I'm bored as hell. Young Thug: Young Thug has received both praise and criticism for his eccentric and unique vocal style, which has been described as departing from traditional rap lyricism and sometimes intelligible meaning. Jeff Weiss of BBC called him the "most influential rapper of the 21st century." According to The Fader, "in a typical Young Thug verse, he slurs, shouts, whines and sings, feverishly contorting his voice into a series of odd timbres like a beautifully played but broken wind instrument." Pitchfork called his style "extraordinarily distinctive" and "a weird, experimental approach to rapping" while praising his "presence, persona, mystique, and, potentially, star power." Billboard wrote that "Thug uses this multiplicative vocal delivery to his advantage: where another rapper might lapse into repetition, he finds a new way to distress and warp his tone, to burrow resourcefully into rhythmic cracks and crevices." Complex noted his aptitude for creating catchy, melodic hooks. XXL called him a "rap weirdo", stating that "Thug's charisma, unhinged flow and hooks make his music intriguing." Critic Sheldon Pearce wrote that "Thug understands the modern pop song construction better than anyone: anything and everything can be a hook." SZA: Young Thug has been noted for his fast working method, with several collaborators observing his tendency to freestyle tracks live in the studio or quickly develop lyrics on the spot. He doesn't write down lyrics on paper, but has been known to plan lyrics by drawing shapes and signs. Consequence of Sound stated that "his work is constantly rooted in improvisation, an inherently thrilling concept that's embedded itself in black music." Discussing his work, Williams has claimed the ability to write a hit song in 10 minutes and said "I'm in the studio so much, I'll just try stuff. I just think and try, think and try. I don't really know how to sing, but I've been trying for years." Young Thug has cited American rapper Lil Wayne, as his biggest idol and influence. In an interview with Complex magazine he says, "I want to get in the studio with Wayne more than anybody in the world." He has also cited mentor Gucci Mane and Kanye West as influences. There is no sign of the other two until later in the week. Young Thug: In February 2018, Young Thug rebranded himself "SEX". He confirmed the news in a since-deleted post on his Facebook page. The age at which Thugger was born remains unknown, but most sources agree that he was around 20 when he was born. Jay Rock: The owner of the grammy's is a punk. How did i not win? They was tryna do me. That's how they got that punked up look, by using make up! I'ma get that Grammy back. You: You're on something, aren't you? Young Thug: Punk is the upcoming second studio album by American rapper Young Thug. It is scheduled to be released in 2020. It is the follow-up to his debut studio album, So Much Fun, which was released in August 2019. The album was expected to feature a collaborative album titled "Hands in the Air" You look at young thug Thugger: As of 2020, Young Thug has appeared on numerous songs by other artists, including "Yell Oh" by Trippie Redd, "Give No Fxk" by Migos, as well as the single "Out West" by JackBoys, the latter peaking at number 38 on the Billboard Hot 100. On April 29, 2020, Young Thug and Chris Brown announced their mixtape, Slime & B. It was released on May 5, 2020. The project's lead single, "Go Crazy", peaked at number 9 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Thug's highest charting single as a lead artist. In September, he featured on Travis Scott's single "Franchise", which debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. On January 1, 2021, Thug released the second single from his upcoming album, "She Wanna Party". In September, he announced the album's title to be "Punk" and that he would release it on February 1, 2021. (LINK REMOVED) You: Alright, it's time to go see this man! You arrive at a large mansion, with a gate of course. You wait in your car for a few minutes before the passenger door opens and Travis Scott leans over from the seat to get a good look at the house. Young Thug: "Pick Up the Phone" (stylized as "pick up the phone" on Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight) is a song by American hip hop recording artists Young Thug and Travis Scott. It was released on June 3, 2016, by Grand Hustle Records, Epic Records, Atlantic Records and 300 Entertainment. The song features vocals from Atlanta rapper Quavo from the hip hop trio Migos and additional vocals from American conservative commentator Ben Shapiro The song was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 59th Grammy Awards, but lost to Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift's "Slatt". Travis Scott starts to yell at young thug. Travis: "I'm supposed to go in the house, not stand here on the lawn! Young Thug: Slatt, you out here bout that life! Travis: Nah, I'm not tryna go in there, they probably got a ton of mad rules. Young Thug: "Franchise" is a song by American rapper Travis Scott featuring fellow American rapper Young Thug and British rapper M.I.A. It was released on September 25, 2020, alongside a video shot partly in England and at Michael Jordan's Chicago mansion. The song debuted atop the U.S. Billboard Hot 100, for the chart dated October 10, 2020, becoming Scott's fourth Hot 100 number-one single, Young Thug's second, as well as M.I.A.'s first. By doing so, Scott became the first artist in Billboard chart history to have three songs debut at number one in less than a year. It debuted at number 1 on the Billboard Album 200 chart. It has since been certified Gold in Australia and the United States. The song will has been nominated for "Best Rap/Sung Collaboration" at the 55th Grammy Awards, which will be held in February 2022.
2020.10.09 18:50 happywhodeyA pacifist soldier – part 2
Part 1 A few weeks passed and the First Sergeant and I found ourselves returning to the satellite post. This time it seemed more like we were heading out just to give the First Sergeant some rest. He was a good man, always referring to us as Lethal Weapon. I was Mel Gibson and he was Danny Glover. Top was roughly 6'3 and surprisingly strong. He did the 'flagpole' move one day with ease and I was shocked a man of his size could pull it off. He should have been playing baseball for the Pittsburgh Pirates, but didn't have enough money to take a bus for minor league tryouts. Instead, he joined the Army, making a promise to himself that he would make Sergeant Major before he retired. His heart had other plans. After the hour drive, we passed the party tents and concertina wire, parked the Humvee in our usual spot. The same three guys greeted us. We watched Toy Story on VHS. I still can't understand how this is a permanent station for these three guys. It's maddening. A few hours before nightfall, I spotted a vehicle driving down a road, eventually parking next to the party tents. A man exited the vehicle and entered one of the tents. Minutes later, he walked out to a makeshift pen that was holding lambs and brought one inside. One of the guys informed us that he was a servant and always arrived a few hours before to prepare the meal. A group of guys would then eat and party all weekend in the tents. It was the weekend? On cue, a few hours later, luxury vehicles began showing up to the tents. They all parked their cars around the tents and headed inside. I realized that this was the equivalent of someone's cabin home on a lake, just more sand and less water. Ok, no water at all. I turned around and went to bed. The next day I was on watch, although everyone was mulling around outside. It was around noon and I heard a motor turning my head towards the trail that led down to the main road. An unfamiliar, civilian vehicle rolled right into our camp. The make and model of the vehicle was something I had never heard of. It drove past the Humvee, parking close to the drop-off. Two young middle-eastern men exited the vehicle. "Kuwaiti friends. Kuwaiti friends." the driver said with a smile and hands up. The passenger walked around to the back of the vehicle. The First Sergeant was between me and the vehicle. "Be careful, "HappyWhoDey" he said, walking a few steps towards the vehicle. Again, I was carrying an M16, and again, it was on safety and pointing towards the ground. The passenger opened the trunk. Many things could have happened at this moment. It could have turned hectic. There could have been yelling. I could have pointed my weapon at them. Many things could have happened. The passenger brought out a blanket and began laying it out over the sand, next to their car. He went back to the trunk and began bringing picnic supplies out and laying them down on the blanket. "Sit! Sit!" The passenger said, pointing at the blanket. The driver walked over and sat across from the passenger. One of our guys sat down on the blanket, and I sat next to him. The two men spoke in English the best they could. We learned that they were college students and wanted to have a conversation with military soldiers. They served us Kuwaiti coffee and chocolate covered dates, which were absolutely fantastic. We asked them a few questions about getting your hand cut off if you were caught stealing three times, which they verified. We sat with them, having a nice conversation that lasted about an hour. They then packed up, said their goodbyes and drove off. It took me years to finally realize that both incidents could have ended much differently. I could have easily been killed, along with everyone at the satellite post if the first man and two college students were any different. I could have easily overreacted and shot three innocent Kuwaitis. I was a good loader for an M1A1 and M1A2 tank. That was my training. We pointed and shot our gun tube at tank cutouts made of wood or shot at plastic 'ruskies' in the shape of soldiers. I wasn't trained for the two situations I wrote about. The old adage, you don't know what you're made of until put in the situation. You hear it over and over again. What kind of person are you? Will you make a split second decision when the time comes? My realization, over the past few years, is that I wasn't that great of a soldier, at least in certain situations. Yes, I did what I was told. I stayed out of trouble. I gained rank. Took college classes. Buffed the floors. Kept my uniform pressed. All the bullsh*t you were told to do. Yet, I had two situations I probably handled wrong, depending on who you spoke with. There are three Kuwaiti men still walking and living in Kuwait (I hope) because my M16 was still on safety and I didn't overreact. From my time over in the desert these two situations are what I think about most. It affects me more than I care to admit and the outcomes were good. Oddly, it helps me empathize more with those men and women that have seen and been through hell. There are stories that will never be shared and will go with them to their grave.
2020.07.01 01:59 hatcreekcattlecoI Binged All 14 Seasons During Quarantine - Here's My Top 10
Title's self-explanatory, but a bit of background on myself: I had, of course, being a human being on planet earth living in the States, seen a few classic episodes here and there (Chardee MacDennis, The Nightman Cometh, for example) and I'd always wanted to watch the show in its entirety. So I did. Without further ado, and in reverse order, my Top 10: 10). S10 E6 - The Gang Misses The Boat, this was def one of the best episodes so far where they’re self aware of the show’s formula-- frank finds a new crew and tries to get them to do schemes and pranks and that crew ends up losing their bar bc he gave a bunch of kids fake id’s and let a ferret loose hahaha, dee and charlie make out during def poetry practice (what!) 9). S9 E6 The Gang Saves The Day from convenience store robbery, Charlie animates and turns into the old man from Up! 8). S4 E2 The Gang Solves The Gas Crisis, charlie wild-cards and cuts brakes on car before bailing out 7). S11 E10 - The Gang Goes To Hell (Pt.2 of this arc), they get thrown in the brig, beat box, chant oi-oi-oi! 6). S14 E6 The Janitor Always Mops Twice - The noir episode. So brilliant. The dialog was incredible, directing incredible, how they would break character briefly when becoming annoyed at each other... INCREDIBLE. 5). S2 E4 Mac Bang’s Dennis’ Mom, spiral of sex revenge. This really got me, the conceit of banging each others' moms, and even Frank, really on brand for me, personally, haha. Very funny and well executed. Show started to hit its stride. 4). S12 E1 - The Gang Turns Black, riffing on The Whiz. Very smart, very funny, catchy tunes, everything you could want out of the concept and more. 3). S7 E13 Part 2 of the high school reunion arc, the gang enacts the plan B dance. I loved each and every two-part pairing of episodes. This one, and getting thrown in the brig, are my faves, but I think the dance at the end here sends this over the top. 2). S7 E11 Thundergun Express, Dennis moves too slow w girls, frank gives a river tour, dee and mac take to the sewers. Everything about this is hilarious, the ticking 24-style clock, the 'we'll come back for you call'-backs; but Dennis listening to recordings of literal sex-tapes and discovering he does move too slowly with women was just too funny. This was a rare instance where I allowed a 'classic' into my top 10. 1). S12 E3 Old Lady House, A Situation Comedy. The sitcom ep w mac and charlie’s moms I believe to be the pinnacle of Always Sunny. Not only is it incredibly innovative, but for me, I love that it happened organically. In other words, it wasn't a 'concept' episode from the jump, like, say, the Frank's Day episode, transpiring entirely from his POV. I'm just in love with the fact it spiraled organically, and in a direction that we all wanted it to: leading to all of the characters ending up over at the house one by one (minus Dennis, but he is usually the puppet master anyway). I think there are countless episodes that reward fans of the show with deep call backs and inside jokes; but for me, all of the show's complex mythologies and character ethos were perfectly embodied and hilariously rewarded in this episode. It popped! HONORABLE MENTION: Whew boy. There were so many episodes that came very close to making my top 10. For those still reading/giving a damn, here are the closest (in order this time): -S11 E5 mac and dennis live in the suburbs ***Fuck! So funny, this is probably tied for the 10 spot. -S9 E1 The gang breaks Dee w a fake stand-up career, then breaks dennis. This episode was great because it’s not often that they leave the audience out of the loop, and this paid off in spades for the final reveal. Dennis' reaction at the end killed me. -S10 E8 mac “kills” his dad— mac and charlie interrogate their moms and charlie’s mom had a threeway w mac’s dad which ended without her (haha). dee dennis and frank try to convince ponderosa not to kill himself, then take out a life insurance policy on him -S13 E7 the gang does a clip show / inception gimmick -S5 E5 Intervention on Frank, wine in diet coke cans, Frank springs a gun on them -S12 E2 water park, dennis gets out-swindled by a daughter-figure, frank pretends to have aids to ride the rides first -S10 E2 the gang group dates, frank whistles FINAL MUSINGS ON THE SHOW I think season 13 was easily the worst, and very nearly jumped the shark. The first three episodes were DOA. But the Clip Show episode and the finale with Mac's somber dance piece saved it. Season 14 I was pleasantly surprised bounced back. I know one of the seasons they thought they were for sure going to be canceled, and so went all out and it saved them, was that season 12? Anyone know? THOUGHTS ON BLACK FACE So, [disclaimer] I know this sub, and to a larger extent, fans in general of the show, have a wide range of opinions on this, not unlike the wide range of opinions on, say, to what degree do you believe we should de-fund police in America, if at all? And, obviously, who the fuck am I? But, also, this is a forum and I watched all the episodes, so, I'm entitled to my opinion just like everyone else in the comments below will be too. AND, you don't have to keep reading! Charlie, Glenn Rob and Kaitlin are comedic geniuses (Danny is too but for now I'm keeping this discussion to show creators). There is no disputing that. They took an idea, had the wherewithal to film it a zillion times until it was funny enough to put in front of Networks and get the freaking thing Green lit. Like, that's insane. And the sheer volume of high quality shows they have put out over the past FIFTEEN YEARS, is staggering. As we are all aware, they're now the longest-running live action comedy sitcom? And I want to just get this out of the way right now: I am in the South Park school of thought, which is, [make fun of] everybody, or nobody. But more on that later. Charlie Glenn and Rob have gone on record as saying their comedic philosophy for the show is as follows: "If it's funny, it's in good taste. If it's unfunny, poor taste." My question is, can something be funny AND be in poor taste? Are the lethal weapon episodes funny? Absolutely. Are they in poor taste? I think yes. unpopularopinion alert! I think the lethal weapon eps with Rob in blackface, and Dee, or Dee as Martina Martinez, they're just comedy for comedy's sake. Whereas South Park, is [usually] comedy + commentary [2nd Disclaimer, I have not seen every ep of SP. I'm sure there are examples of poor taste on SP, so I'm not giving them a pass, rather illustrating a point with what I at least know to be true]. I am aware of the Ash-face episode in SP, but I have not seen it in its entirety. And yes, I know that the premise to IASIP is a group of deplorable/depraved people get into schemes and pranks and mischief, which in turn push the envelope and social norms in *hopefully* a self-reflexive way. But this should not be a crutch. We the audience all fully aware that they ARE capable of commentary, e.g., The Gang Turns Black, the global warming episode, the puppy abortion episode. Where I think you get into trouble is comedy for comedy's sake alone. I acknowledge it's easy for me to look back in hindsight, and through the lens of current events; but, nonetheless, here I am now, writing this Op-ed, is I guess what it's turned into. The final thing that goes into my consideration of poor taste is this: I don't believe it's fair that the tastemakers (show creators) are all white and that THEY get to decide if this is funny, or if that alone gives them a pass for blackface. When I take into account that the show hardly featured POC (Persons Of Color) in both leading roles, featured guest roles and in terms of bg actors, I don't think that that's fair either, or reflective of the world. IASIP is overWHELMINGLY white. "But it's supposed to be Philadelphia! And-- And--" And I don't care. Because you're on national television, and you have a responsibility to be inclusive. Because I think the dangers of the message it sends far outweigh the benefits of humor. In other words, young white people who watch these episodes, consciously or otherwise, one takeaway could be, "Black face isn't insulting to black people, because see! The tastemakers on this network show said so! We're all laughing and having a silly time. It's just a silly time, c'mon!" That's dangerous. I think that does perpetuate systemic racism. Did they do it on purpose or consciously? God no! They don't even wrangle background, they're so far removed from that responsibility. But, after a few seasons, they could and should have taken a step back, looked around and said, "Hey, we need more people of color on this show. Make it happen." Rob could have made it happen. It's indicative of Hollywood as a whole, where for over one hundred years, and still to this day, white people are the tastemakers. What if one of the show creators was black? But they're not. So why does Dave Chappelle get to drop the N-bomb in his comedy and Danny DeVito can't drop the N-Bomb on Always Sunny? This is actually something I think about a lot. Is it an unwritten rule that only black people can use that? Yes. Is there a double-standard? Most definitely. Like when Ludacris pointed out Oprah's double standards for hosting him on her show in 2006, because of his profane-laden lyrics. That being said, I wish Chappelle wouldn't either; but that's a whole other can of worms, and only two of you are still with me to the point, so, I digress. Is it ironic that the very first episode of the show dealt with racism? Maybe. But, see, I think the differences here are fairly nuanced. That episode forced the characters to acknowledge their own bias', albeit in humorous, stepping on your own feet, Larry David-esque ways = commentary. Mac's blackface makeup coming off in the shower... like, it's funny! But what's the message? Is it okay just because the woman in the bank they were pitching it to was black? I'd argue she found it offensive. "But that's the point! Offensive = funny!" But again, is it worth it? When a minority child gets to class the next day and everyone of his classmates is white, and they think it's okay to make fun of him because the tastemakers deemed it a chill/funny/silly time? Or a bunch of white bros are chatting around the water cooler about it, and the POC feels uncomfortable but is too afraid to say anything about it? Also, I think it's telling, there's two Conan clips where they approach this topic. One from 2012 with just Rob, and one from 2016 I think, with the whole cast. Conan brings it up, and they just kind of laugh their way through it without ever really addressing the question; Kaitlin has the story about going to the ER and everyone staring at her, Charlie later says, 'technically, it's Danny Glover face'. Their responses felt very side-step'y. And I think that's telling. If you're uncomfortable to justify why you put characters in blackface and have a serious discussion about it, I think that's telling. Anyway, this is not an indictment of the show and its creators, maybe it's a think piece, idk, that's for you to decide. I love this show, I think it's brilliant and there will never be another like it. Just stay away from blackface and please be more inclusive. Those would be my two *big* asks of not just Always Sunny, but all shows moving forward.
Read more on WordPress https://ift.tt/2X9cRVs Last Updated: May 28, 2020 Actor and comedian Chris Rock will be bringing Saw back to life with a reboot in 2021. This will be the first _Saw_film since 2017’s Jigsaw. To date, eight feature-length films and one short film make up the _Saw _franchise. Originally the brainchild of writer-directors James Wan and Leigh Whannell, the Saw _franchise follows the grisly, graphic murders of a serial killer known as Jigsaw and the intense investigation to hunt and capture him. In a statement to Varietyannouncing the planned reboot to the franchise and his involvement in it, Rock said, _“I’ve been a fan of Saw since the first film in 2004. I am excited by the opportunity to take this to a really intense and twisted new place._” _This new installment will breathe new life into the franchise, which enjoyed massive success during the early 2000s but saw declining interest from audiences the deeper it got into its story and lore with every installment. Related: Every Saw Movie Ranked, Worst To Best Rock’s _Saw_reboot is now officially titled _Spiral: From the Book of Saw_– which doesn’t give much away as to what viewers can expect from the forthcoming film. Here are all the other details we know about the ninth _Saw_film so far. Spiral: From the Book of Saw, Chris Rock’s _Saw_reboot, has had trouble nailing down a release date. The film was originally slated for October 23, 2020, then later moved forward to May 15, 2020, due to what many believe was fear of facing off with Halloween Kills at the box office. Unfortunately, _Saw 9_became one of the many summer 2020 to lose its release date due to the Coronavirus pandemic, and is now set for release on May 21, 2021. Rock was a central figure in the Saw _reboot’s development and production, which wrapped on August 28, 2019. The comedic actor, who’s already taking a big, exciting risk by moving into horror, also has “story by” and executive producer credits on _Spiral. Rock will play the film’s lead, Zeke, a detective who’s investigating a string of gory murders. There’s nothing quite like this leading role in a Saw _reboot in Rock’s 30-plus year career. He’s done serious or, at minimum, straighter, less blatantly comedic roles in the past, such as 1991’s _New Jack City _or 2014’s _Top Five. But horror is totally new territory for Rock, who’s said _Saw 9_will feature some comedy, but still focus on giving franchise fans what they want. It would definitely be interesting to see Rock commit to playing Zeke completely straight – a big switch to help usher in a new era of Saw. It’s still unclear whether the _Saw _reboot will have any firm connections to the rest of the franchise, outside of taking place later on in the same universe. Of course, there’s a connection in the shared _Saw _name, but its place in the overall continuity isn’t confirmed. There’s also no word on if the original Jigsaw character, John Kramer, is set to return, although considering how stretched out his post-death plans already were, that may not be the best route. So far, no actors from the original franchise have been linked to the Saw _reboot, not even Tobin “Jigsaw” Bell. This will clear a path for an entirely new lineup to enter into this grisly, terrifying world. In addition to Chris Rock, Samuel L. Jackson, Max Minghella _(The Social Network),_ Marisol Nichols (Riverdale), Morgan David Jones (Supernatural) Frank Licari _(BlueBloods),_and John Tokatlidis (_Assassins Creed Odyssey) have all been added to the _Saw _reboot cast. Jackson will play Marcus, the father of Rock’s character. Minghella plays William Schenk, Zeke’s partner, and Licari his brother, Charlie. Nichols will play Captain Angie Garcia, the head honcho overseeing Zeke and William’s investigation. Jones plays Officer Barrett and Tokatlidis is a man named Burns, although nothing is known about their positions in the plot. The Saw _reboot has secured Darren Lynn Bousman to direct. In the past, Bousman directed three _Saw _films: _Saw II (2005), Saw III(2006), and Saw IV(2007). Additionally, Bousman co-wrote the Saw II _script with Leigh Whannell. Bousman’s proximity to the _Saw _franchise makes him arguably the best choice to take on a new _Saw _film. He’s been so integral to their continued success already and understands what it will take to make a new installment worthy of being added into the _Saw _canon. It also doesn’t hurt that Bousman is a seasoned horror director away from Billy the Puppet, having directed films like Repo! The Genetic Operaand a remake of the classic chiller _Mother_‘s Day _throughout his 20-year career. The story of the _Saw_reboot primarily follow Chris Rock’s character, Zeke, as he investigates a string of Jigsaw-like murders targeting cops. That’s somewhat similar to the original movie, which stayed (for the most part) in one room where two men, Lawrence (Cary Elwes) and Adam (Leigh Whannell) were trapped and forced to find a way to free themselves, while Detective David Tapp (Danny Glover) tried to find the men as well as the killer. Beyond that, the contents of the script – written by _Jigsaw_‘s Pete Goldfinger and Josh Stolberg – are largely unknown. The first trailer for Spiral: From the Book of Saw_was released on February 5, 2020. It shows off Rock’s lead performance, which does seem to be played straight so far. With the _Saw reboot currently being without a release date though, one wonders when fans will finally get more footage to look at. At least the movie managed to fit in Sam Jackson saying “mother****er,” something always appreciated. Next: Every Upcoming Horror Movie Franchise Reboot https://ift.tt/2K2ea23

They keep pushing the BS narrative that Floyd died later. The cop was kneeling on his neck for many long minutes after he lost consciousness. This cop and those around him didn't understand that putting the blade of your shin and your knee, with the weight of a grown man behind it onto your carotid artery and slowly reducing the blood flow for 4 minutes can kill someone. That is beyond me. How can you not hold the police to a higher standard when a regular person would be facing at least a manslaughter or negligent homicide charge? The argument that they have to deal with stressful situations all the time gets even stupider when you mention that as a reason to pay and train them to a higher standard but it doesn't seem like some people are interested in equal accountability across society. posted by DasaBadLarry55 on /news Click here to view the post. ● 7,843 Upvotes ● Posted: 27/05/2020 at 10:35:39 UTC
Congratulations, New Zealand. This is truly something to be proud of. `I find it heart-warming that a country locked down despite economical consequences and then re-opened gradually and orderly with testing and contact tracing. This is a country that actually cares for its people unlike some that are okay with killing thousands of their own just to reach \"herd immunity\". Some that haven't even locked down.` posted by ahm713 on /worldnews Click here to view the post. ● 6,449 Upvotes ● Posted: 27/05/2020 at 02:04:22 UTC

Why don't we see police officers or departments come out and condemn things like this when they happen? I was on a police subreddit yesterday and most people seemed to agree with you, and stressing that this is less common than the media would have us believe. It was basically boiled down to \"yeah this is bad, the media jumps on it and the police are not set up to fight a PR battle with the media\". I understand that argument, but when so many people agree that what happened is wrong, wouldn't it be a good move to stand up and say \"we do not condone this' as an organization. It's a really bad look when they stay quiet or as is the case most of time, back up the officer in question. It's like if there was a problem with mailmen stealing packages, I would expect the post office to fire them, have them arrested, and let the public know that it won't be tolerated. We see police unions support politicians for election, but we never see them come together to condemn this sort of thing. It's just a really bad look for all the good cops out there and I wonder why they don't speak up more often. posted by shneer4prez on /AskReddit Click here to view the post. ● 1 Upvotes ● 2 reward(s). ● 1 silver reward(s), 1 gold reward(s) and 0 platinum reward(s) ● Posted: 27/05/2020 at 22:48:05 UTC

I don't know if it will answer your question, but it is not just common across American diners. They are ubiquitous in Europe too, in the southern countries usually accompanied by olive oil. I imagine they are also common in all the Mediterranean basin, although I am not sure of that. By the time of the settlement of the American colonies, in the 17th and 18th century, salt and pepper were already the most common \"spices\" used in Europe, so it is no surprise this tradition was carried on to the other side of the Atlantic. `Salt has been a staple ingredient of world cuisine for millennia. It could be called the \"first and most common of the spices\", and there's archeological evidence of it already being used around the year 6000 BC. ~~Salt can be mined relatively easy, as to get it you mostly need to evaporate seawater to extract the salt.~~ Salt is not endemic to any particular area, you can get it anywhere where there is access to the sea or, less common, where there are salt mines. It was a common ingredient in Antiquity, if somewhat expensive, as the production of salt was a costly and labour-intensive work, prone to health problems on the workers. We have uncovered rests of salt offerings in Ancient Egyptian tombs as far as the 3rd millennium BC, and by Roman Imperial times salt was incredibly common. There's the enduring myth that salt was used as a payment for early Roman soldiers, hence the word \"salary\", but that is just a speculation from Pliny the Elder, writing in the 1st century AD, when soldiers had been paid in cash for already many centuries.` Black pepper is a bit more rare ingredient, as it comes from a plant native to South and South East Asia, still the main producing region of this ingredient. Its use in India goes as back as 2000 BC. In the West, the first remains we have found are in the nostrils of the mummy of the Egyptian pharaoh Rameses II, who died in 1213 BC. In Classical Greece and the Hellenic period, black pepper was already a known item, but only common in the household of the most rich and influential people. It is by this time that trade between the Far East and the Mediterranean started to flourish, specially since the creation of the Achaemenid Empire which connected India and Europe. The land route was paralleled by a sea route, which went both through the Persian Gulf and also around the Arabian peninsula and through the Red Sea. `By the Early Roman Empire, the Red Sea route was the main one to get Indian products to the Mediterranean, bypassing the middlemen in the Persian Empire. The Greek geographer Strabo describes how the Empire sent an annual caravan of ships to India to get goods, and black pepper was one of the most sought after products. A cooking book thought to be compiled in the first century AD (Apicus) cites pepper in most of its recipes. Pliny the Elder, in his monumental *Natural History*, notes the price of black pepper being four denarii per pound, a considerable amount. Basing us in the annual salary of a Roman legionnaire of 225 denarii and comparing it to a modern soldier in a western country (between 15k and 35k dollars), it wouldn't be crazy to compare it to a current price of 400 dollars a roman pound (so $550 an Imperial pound or $1215/kg). A considerable amount for a regular person, but not prohibitive to the more affluent classes. Curiously, Pliny gives us a moralizing tale about pepper:` > It is quite surprising that the use of pepper has come so much into fashion, seeing that in other substances which we use, it is sometimes their sweetness, and sometimes their appearance that has attracted our notice; whereas, pepper has nothing in it that can plead as a recommendation to either fruit or berry, its only desirable quality being a certain pungency; and yet it is for this that we import it all the way from India! Who was the first to make trial of it as an article of food? and who, I wonder, was the man that was not content to prepare himself by hunger only for the satisfying of a greedy appetite?Because of this steady stream of pepper, it would become common but scarce, a perfect luxury good; and because of its long lasting preservation, it was sometimes used as a valuable commodity when barter was necessary. When the Visigoth king Alaric sieged Rome in the early 5th century, black pepper was one of his demands for ransoming the city, 3000 pounds of it. `In the Middle Ages, the Eastern Roman Empire, the Sassanids or the Arabs would become the middlemen bringing pepper into the Mediterranean, and then it would spread via the trading powers of Venice and Genoa. The prices would be significantly higher than in Roman times, considering the amount of middlemen and countries it would take to get it to the final consumer, so western European countries would be willing to open up new trade routes to break with the Arab+Italian monopoly on the spice trade. This desire would push Vasco da Gama, and then Columbus, to lead the Age of Exploration for getting spices from India, specially pepper, at a cheaper price. Later the Dutch and the English would join this push for cheaper trade with Asia, which combined with the plantations of pepper in the Americas (specifically Brazil) brought its price down to a level where even modest homes could afford to use it from time to time.` This lower prices, combined with a long and rich tradition of cooking with pepper in Europe, would make it one of the most common spices used in European cuisine, only surpassed by salt. It makes sense that restaurants and taverns in the Modern era would have it as a common condiment and would start offering it to customers, in case they wanted to spice up their dishes. This tradition would naturally be brought to the Americas by European colonists, and that is how it ended up being so ubiquitous all round the Western world. posted by SocratesTheBest on /AskHistorians Click here to view the post. ● 2,634 Upvotes ● 2 reward(s). ● 1 silver reward(s), 1 gold reward(s) and 0 platinum reward(s) ● Posted: 27/05/2020 at 09:35:10 UTC
That scene always got me, but I never truly understood it until my daughter died. We wanted her to wear a certain sleeveless dress that she had worn several times that year. She always wore a long sleeved shirt under it because it was winter and the dress was itchy. Her funeral was on a hot week in mid May. I didn't want her to wear the long sleeved shirt because she would have been too hot, but I didn't want her to wear only the itchy dress. I had to go and buy her a new short sleeved undershirt so she wouldn't be itchy or too hot. That was my \"glasses\" moment. posted by babegirlvj on /AskReddit Click here to view the post. ● 737 Upvotes ● 2 reward(s). ● 1 silver reward(s), 1 gold reward(s) and 0 platinum reward(s) ● Posted: 27/05/2020 at 21:53:36 UTC

Because that does not sit with my head cannon for mangy old Lorc the half orc. I always picture a Danny Glover type actor, "I'm getting too old for this shit"

I'm obsessed with ranking things I love so I decided to tackle my favorite comedy: Community. What sets it apart in my eyes from the sitcom royalty (which includes The Office, 30 Rock, Parks & Rec, Brooklyn 99, How I Met Your Mother & Seinfeld) is the capacity to be a formidable foundation for parody. Essentially, the writers (outside of most Season 4 attempts) are able to meld together plot and parody to great effect without sacrificing one for the other. As will be evident in my rankings, when Community is able to pull this off, it truly is TV magic unlike anything else out there. The closet, one can argue, is HIMYM as they have some standalone attempts that hit a similar mark, but the consistency is far and away in Community’s favor. I've broken the list in half in hopes to focus discussion on each section and to give myself more time to write up commentary on the "better" episodes. Please comment below and tell me why you agree/disagree! Here are my rankings of episodes #110-56:
"Advanced Introduction to Finality" (S04E13)
For all the genius the Dark Timeline gives us, this conclusion does not feel earned or entertaining. On paper, the idea seems fine: the Dark Timeline invades. But in execution, the logic is too much of a stretch to genuinely enjoy and it all feels forced.
"Alternative History of the German Invasion" (S04E04)
One of the most--if not THE most--forgettable episodes. Centering the episode around the revived German villains (sans what made them funny the first time, Nick Kroll) meant this was doomed from inception. Decent set up of the Changnesia storyline, but even that feels underbaked. Strong argument can be made this is the worst episode, but the one below it gets docked more for the mistreatment of the dark timeline.
"Conventions of Space and Time" (S04E03)
This episode is a shell of an idea, similar to Season 4 finale. With a promising conceit, the background of the convention could lead anywhere. Ultimately, it leads us on an unlikable battle for Abed's favor that provides no growth or insight for the characters involved. And other cringy moments help to make this one another easy one to forget.
"Cooperative Escapism and Familial Relations" (S04E05)
In a show known for nailing it's holiday episodes, I was excited to see what they'd do with their only Thanksgiving entry. What we get is the 'Season-four-shell-treatment': they want to connect Shawshank with escaping Shirley's and that's literally all there is. Danny Pudi's Morgan Freeman impression is the only good to come from the scenario. I know others appreciate the Jeff/Father storyline, but it felt too disconnected with Thanksgiving storyline, which I thought should be featured more overall, for me to appreciate the performances or feel emotionally invested.
"Advanced Documentary Filmmaking" (S04E06)
Chang is one of my favorite characters. Had the Changesia angle been more genuine, as the episode leads us to believe until the end tag, then it would rank much higher. Instead, the obvious Chang-betrayal puts us back in well-tread territory, undoing the nicer aspects of this documentary episode. Ultimately, another instance of trying to retroactively make a memorable Community episode, missing the heart that could have made it special--although it comes close.
"Intro to Knots" (S04E10)
Another entry in 'Season-four-shell-treatment' made even more apparent with it being a Christmas episode. Great setup, interesting twist, but so much wasted potential. Had they cut the Die Hard stuff entirely, it may rank higher. I found the references repetitive and annoying and it led nowhere. There's just not enough focus to appreciate what's happening. I still get immense joy from the reveal that Chang can't tie knots, but the entire kidnapping storyline is too underdeveloped to be meaningful.
"App Development and Condiments" (S05E08)
One of the few high-concept episodes that falls flat to me. The more the world is taken over by the app, the less invested I became. Jeff's journey to return everyone to sanity was uninteresting, perhaps due to the aesthetic choices of the world-building. Some funny moments aside, it just doesn't succeed in being much more than a concept. Love the Tim & Eric cameo; should have been featured more.
"Intro to Felt Surrogacy" (S04E09)
The puppets, songs and cameos make this one a Season four highlight. It's enough to distract you from noticing there's not much beyond that. The storyline itself is absurd in a bad way. If they had embedded the dark secrets in much more straightforward way (and given Abed one even if he didn't end up sharing it) it would have been much more enjoyable. I would have loved to see this idea executed with the real creators at the helm.
"Economics of Marine Biology" (S04E07)
This one surprisingly grows on you. Initially, the prospect of Greendale selling out to lure in 'the whale' seemed like a half-hearted attempt to go zany (and revisit the Abed-college-movie terrain) but rewatching Magnitude lose his identity and remembering the P.E.E. subplot, this one has a lot of laughs and the surprising heart that made the show successful.
"Laws of Robotics and Party Rights" (S06E05)
There are some good jokes in here, but the execution of the main idea of telepresence robots used by criminals doesn't strike me as entertaining. I'm bored more than I'm laughing and it's a decent one to skip in rewatching.
"Heroic Origins" (S04E12)
They pretty much the nail the conceit in this episode. The comic book interlays and the fun exploration of how it all started are ambitious if not a little forced. The discovery of Chang at the center of it all, clearing the way for him to finally join the group, is a triumph. I'm also not bothered by the yet unmentioned Froyo shop that served as an important landmark in their backstory because it feels at home with the comic cliche.
"History 101" (S04E01)
Abed's imagining of Community as an entirely other sitcom (with Fred Willard as Pierce) is fantastic until you realize the real show is a shell of its former self. That contrast hurts what is actually a really fun episode. It also suffers from too many storylines not really gelling. It ranks this high because for better or worse, it sets the tone for the season and offers some memorable laughs.
"Intro to Recycled Cinema" (S06E08)
I love the bits of re-purposing the old footage of Chang to fit into Abed's new movie, but the rest of the movie scenes were unremarkable. The Steve Gutenberg cameo was great and his reactions to the film are entertaining. I love the "Ham girl!" line rocketing Chang into stardom. Beyond that though, it's all too light and uneventful that it's easy to rank low.
"The Art of Discourse" (S01E22)
If it wasn't for the super annoying fued between Jeff/Britta and high schoolers, this would rank much higher. The fun meta-exploration really finds a home with the college cliche fixation but so much time is wasted on "Da-Doys!"
"Football, Feminism, and You" (S01E06)
I'm very glad they dropped this version of Troy early on but it's really the first dud in its run. It does get points for bonding Shirley and Britta in a fun way. And I suppose there's some merit to fleshing out Troy as someone who'd fake an injury to avoid a football career, but it's still not completely true to Troy as a character. Perhaps the best example of the show trying to find its footing.
"Aerodynamics of Gender" (S02E07)
This one just doesn't do it for me. Sure, the idea of a magically calming trampoline sounds funny and they execute it well enough, it's just not something I really need to rewatch. I don't get much enjoyment from Abed's mean-girl routine either.
"Basic Genealogy" (S01E18)
Overall, it's an enjoyable episode. It suffers in rewatching because there's not much entertainment beyond Britta getting spanked by Troy's Nana.
"Celebrity Pharmacology" (S02E13)
I find Pierce extra-annoying in this episode. My main moment of joy comes from Chang taking over the role of drugs. The other storylines don't add much, but there are some good laughs throughout.
"Contemporary Impressionists" (S03E11)
I find Jeff extra-annoying in this episode. Sure, that's sort of the point, but it doesn't make his extra-narcissism any easier to enjoy. The group playing celebrity impressionists is enjoyable, but this is the least memorable episode in what may be the best season.
"Herstory of Dance" (S04E08)
This is a Season 4 gem. Beyond the lovely Brie Larson cameo, witnessing Britta's journey to actual pride and satisfaction is one of the great emotional moments in the series. What holds it back is the unnecessary double-date trope that just lets the cliched developments feel a little flimsy. This is helped by the lack of development of Brie Larson's character in the rest of the season.
"Custody Law and European Diplomacy" (S02E18)
The Chang-may-be-Shirley's-baby's-daddy arc was great and this episode is perhaps the most focused and rewarding concerning it. What drags it down is the unlikable Lukka and the somewhat boring plot surrounding his being an awful human.
"Advanced Gay" (S03E06)
While it was fun to see Pierce embrace some actual character growth, it doesn't really get capitalized on moving forward. This could have been a stepping stone for him; instead, it's a wasted opportunity. Some good laughs and it sets up two important plot points: Pierce's father's death and Troy's induction to the wild world of AC Repair
"Advanced Criminal Law" (S01E05)
I love Abed's elaborate prank, even though real-Troy would have been much more gullible. All the trial stuff is gold, too, especially the setting by the pool. While it suffers from the characters not being themselves quite yet, it's still a fun episode.
"Environmental Science" (S01E10)
There's not much to this episode beyond the Jeff/Chang storyline but it's pretty compelling to push things forward. Humanizing Chang always warms my heart and for this to be our first real dive into his life, it's a decent foundation. The Fievel arc is pretty memorable thanks to Donald Glover's hilarity and the duet sung at the end.
"Paranormal Parentage" (S04E02)
A Halloween classic that doesn't suffer (much) from the season it's in. It feels like Community and even offers Pierce some great opportunities to shine. Entertaining all around, but would likely be that much greater with Harmon's influence.
"Origins of Vampire Mythology" (S03E15)
I'm always confused when I see the title because I think, "another Halloween episode?" I think that impacts my disappointment in this otherwise fine episode. The Pierce/Chang friendship makes me wish we had more. And Britta's texting/calling from the bedroom is actually pretty funny and there's a sad turn where Troy's kindness breaks the spell.
"VCR Maintenance and Educational Publishing" (S05E09)
Another one shaded by my personal disappointment. I was thrilled to hear Vince Gilligan would cameo, but was bummed this was the result. The end tag was funny, though. Decent snapshot of the fallout from Troy leaving, although it's continually frustrating to see Brie Larson underutilized. Oh, yeah, there's something to do with textbooks too.
"Urban Matrimony and the Sandwich Arts" (S03E12)
This one suffers from being forgettable beyond Troy and Abed's 'weird-down'. Of course, the wedding is a standout plot point, but one that gets shuffled away easily as the season progresses.
"Basic Email Security" (S06E06)
While being a weaker entry in Season 6, it definitely has some strong moments. The leaked emails leads to a hilarious discussion among the group and the unified purpose for an ultimately unworthy cause is great. The kid cop gag is solid, too.
"Basic Sandwich" (S05E12)
The second part of the Season 5 finale operates as a treasure hunt and what could have been a series finale if not for Yahoo. It's successful in it's first operation although the solution being a stinky, perverted former teacher with a dues-ex-machina contract is underwhelming. It would have failed as a series finale so thankfully we need not worry about analyzing it as such. Highlight is definitely Richie's brain-robbing ability.
"Basic Story" (S05E13)
The first part of the Season 5 finale sets up the treasure hunt with intrigue and the idea of Subway controlling Greendale feels like dire stakes. It's a fun set up that barely outshines its follow up.
"The Psychology of Letting Go" (S02E03)
While the heartfelt drive to get ice cream allows for a touching moment, the rest of the plots don't do much for me. Britta vs Annie seems gratuitous and Jeff's vanity was already worn out this early in Season 2.
"The Politics of Human Sexuality" (S01E11)
Some great laughs although the subplots don't add much to the enjoyment. Annie's search to see "it" is some good ole Reverse Porky's fun and Abed telling students to not use condoms over the PA is prime Community.
"Basic RV Repair and Palmistry" (S06E10)
A fun, meta episode that feels surprising considering it's somehow new territory all the way in Season 6. Some good laughs, good heartfelt moments, and sets up the great run of episodes that follow.
"The Science of Illusion" (S01E20)
A decently funny episode made all the more memorable for being the introduction of Troy and Abed's talk show. I'd probably rank it higher if not for the fact that I find Annie and Shirley vying to be the bad cop as too much of a 'meh' thing.
"Grifting 101" (S06E09)
An oddball episode made palatable by the hilarious Matt Berry. While a little farfetch'd in execution, it's a fun journey that's fueled by the absurd hi-jinx.
"Asian Population Studies" (S02E12)
Perhaps the most normal episode in the series. That's not a knock against it, it's just a little bland in comparison to what's around it. Some solid moments and laughs, although I find Rich perplexing and frustrating just as Jeff does because I don't know how I'm supposed to make sense of his character.
"Competitive Wine Tasting" (S02E20)
You can pretty much throw out the main storyline of Pierce's new, suspect, love interest. That bit drags the episode down in my opinion. The strength belongs in Abed's storyline where he asserts his pop culture dominance over a professor. We do get an interesting look into Troy and how he continually struggles to have actual struggles compared to the other character's, which rings true throughout the series.
"Applied Anthropology and Culinary Arts" (S02E21)
An overall fun episode despite the Shirley pregnancy arc already being tired by this point. Britta trying to deliver the baby is gold and Chang being humanized will always please me and this is perhaps his greatest, human moment. Not the biggest fan of Pierce buying Troy/Abed's handshake, but it leads to some fun moments.
"Analysis of Cork-Based Networking" (S05E06)
Being the first episode without Troy, naturally it's gonna suffer. What it does well though is capture the college-based zaniness that works so well for Community, highlighting new and background characters with the singular focus on an attainable goal. And we get the genius of 'Bear Down for Midterms'.
A great introduction to perhaps the most underrated character, Frankie. While essentially being another 'Repilot' it does a good job in setting the new-ish stage while providing the same amount of laughs we expect from a good Community episode.
"Studies in Modern Movement" (S03E07)
Troy and Abed are especially grating in this episode and it really makes you sympathize with Annie. There's some redemption with their sweet shadow puppet performance. The highlight, though, is the Jeff/Dean karaoke of Kiss From a Rose.
"Interpretive Dance" (S01E14)
The dancing secret is great and a real chance for Donald Glover to shine with his range. It also offers one of the first instances of Troy being the heart of the group, sacrificing his secret to save Britta. If it wasn't for the bore that is Jeff/Slater romance, this one would rank higher.
"Intro to Political Science" (S02E14)
Solid episode that's only crime is the debate setting not nearly being as funny or interesting as the episodes ranked higher than it.
"Geography of Global Conflict" (S03E02)
Fun episode with some memorable moments. Not a big fan of the UN showdown as the format but it works for Annie's obsessive passion. I wish Martin Starr would have been used more, his character had potential.
"Basic Crisis Room Decorum" (S06E03)
This episode is when I knew this final season was going to be done the right way. This has the classic feel of a Season 3 episode but with new characters bringing a fresh twist to what we already enjoy on the show.
"Introduction to Finality" (S03E22)
What could have sadly been a series finale, this episode delivers in all the right areas. It's a satisfying conclusion to the Troy HVAC Messiah arc and ends on a hopeful look into the future
"Foosball and Nocturnal Vigilantism" (S03E09)
I always enjoy the Jeff/Shirley pairing and the connection in this episode is a strong look into their past and an example of growth. Any time Shirley can show off some unexpected skills that make her into a badass, sign me up. The anime cut of them facing off feels so right and unforced. Sadly, the B plot with Annie breaking Abed's DVD is complete filler.
"Biology 101" (S03E01)
A fun start to my favorite season. A successful foundation for what is the most ambitious season in terms of narrative connective tissue. This one sets the tone.
"Course Listing Unavailable" (S03E18)
The momentum leading to the big gut punch at the end feels meaningful, as if the group could really be seeing its final days.
"Accounting for Lawyers" (S02E02)
First episode where the group leaves the campus is a landmark moment. Very funny episode that gave us some classic moments like the Drew Carey cameo and the chloroform scene.
"Communication Studies" (S01E16)
Jeff and Abed's getting drunk montage solidifies this episode's entry this high into the rankings. While I'm not a big Slater fan, this is her most palatable episode by far.
"Early 21st Century Romanticism" (S02E15)
This episode really benefits from all its seprate parts working together under the theme of Valentine's. Britta being needlessly defiant in the name of acceptance, Troy/Abed pursuing love only to realize their love matters more, and Jeff accepting Greendale through letting Chang move in is powerful. Even stronger, Pierce overusing his pain meds and seeing a tiny Andy Dick is funny until its made poignant by the dark ending.
"Debate 109" (S01E09)
This episode gets major points for sparking the Jeff/Annie relationship, but it's one of my least favorites in rewatch. I guess it's the debate setting. Not taking away anything from the episode in terms of quality, it's solid.
"Bondage and Beta Male Sexuality" (S05E07)
Some good character moments. I really enjoyed seeing Abed express a new emotion while be kept from seeing his movie. The Britta love triangle is interesting, but it doesn't add much beyond showing Duncan has an actual human side.
2019.11.25 06:16 calebcold3BLADE- Casting The Rest of the Characters, Release Date Prediction and Who Should Direct?
I'm pretty bored and I kept thinking of what characters could appear in Mahershala Ali's Blade, When could it be released, and who should direct the film? Release Date: October 7th, 2022. After Disney/Marvel announced a October 2022 release date, it would be a no brainier to release Blade in October, just in time for the Halloween season. Director: I think Rick Famuyiwa (Dope, The Mandalorian Episode 2) would be the ideal choice to direct The MCU Blade film due to his work in The Mandalorian. Casting: Already Confirmed: Mahershala Ali as Blade My Fan Casting: Danny Glover as Jamal Afari (Blade's mentor) Zac Efron as Hannibal King Isla Fisher as Elsa Bloodstone Sam Elliot as Abraham Whistler Viggo Mortensen as Dracula (the main villain) I also think a cameo from Doctor Strange would be likely, as they both are on the supernatural side of Marvel.
2019.09.20 22:33 Rsubs33[Game Preview] Week 3 Philadelphia Eagles(1-1) vs Detroit Lions (1-0-1)
Philadelphia Eagles (1-1) vs Detroit Lions (1-0-1)
The Eagles will look to rebound in in week 3, after a disappointing loss to the Falcons last week that saw them lose both their starting WRs in the first series of the game as well as some scares in the blue tent with both Carson Wentz and Jason Kelce being evaluated for concussions in the game. The Eagles also loss Corey Clement on a kick return last week. The Eagles will most likely be missing both WRs and Clement this week as they welcome the Detroit Lions back to town for the first time since the snow bowl in 2013. In that time frame the Eagles have lost the last two meetings in Detroit to the Lions. Lions are coming off a tough win vs. the Chargers after settling for a tie with the Cardinals in week 1. Patricia is trying to prove he isn’t a bust like so many Belichick disciples before him after going 6-10 with the Patriots in week 1. The two teams will both be looking for win number 2 in week 3 as the teams meet in Philly for the first time since the snow bowl in 2013 when Chip Kelly still looked like he could be a viable NFL coach (a fact that has been verified as false). The Lions took their revenge since that game blowing out Chip Kelly’s Eagles in 2015 and winning a nail biter against Pederson’s Eagles in his first season in 2016. Pederson will look for his first win against the Lions and the Eagles secondary will look to rebound after being shredded by Julio Jones and Calvin Ridley week 2. As rumors circulate of Jalen Ramsey the Eagles corners will look to prove them themselves against a talented Lions WR corps led by Kenny Golladay, who looks like a stud after his first to years in the league. The Eagles secondary will look for help from a DL that has only managed two sacks in their first two weeks and has failed to generate any real pressure despite holding opponents rushing to just 42.5 yards per game. On the flip side, Pederson will look to reinforce to Matt Patricia who his daddy is after last torching the Patriot led Patricia defense in Super Bowl 52 with Big Dick Nick Foles. Look for the Eagles to start fast as Pederson has blamed his play-calling for the slow starts in the first two games of the season. The game should help determine for both teams if they are playoff contenders or pretenders so look for a hard fought game on both sides with hopefully no injuries. As always Go Birds!
FOX will broadcast Sunday’s game to a regional audience. Thom Brennaman will handle the play-by-play duties and Chris Spielman will try to provide analysis. Shannon Spake will report from the sideline.
Calling the game on 94WIP and the Eagles Radio Network will be Merrill Reese, the NFL’s longest-tenured play-by-play announcer (42nd season). Joining Reese in the radio booth will be former Eagles All-Pro wide receiver Mike Quick, while Howard Eskin will report from the sidelines.

Eagles No. 8 - Lions No. 20
Sunday, October 9th, 2016
Eagles 23 - Lions 24
Matt Stafford and the Lions got off to a quick start scoring touchdowns on their first 4 possessions of the game before the Eagles defense settled down and the defense settled down. The offense took the lead in the 4th quarter with a Cody Parkey field goal, but a perfect pass by Matt Stafford to Golden Tate set up a Matt Prater field goal with 1:28 to go left in the game and the Eagles with no timeout. Wentz who played nothing like a rookie in just his 5th NFL games had his rookie side come out at the worst possible moment as he threw up a deep game to Nelson Agholor on first down which was picked off by Darius Slay to seal the game for the Lions.
Both teams struggled to put up points and kick extra points in the first half as a blizzard gripped Philadelphia dropping 6 inches despite a forcast of only a couple snow showers. However once LeSean McCoy put his head down and ran straight ahead instead of juking and jiving, no one could stop him. McCoy ran for a franchise-best 217 yards, including touchdowns of 57 and 40 yards. The Eagles put up 34 points despite trailing the Philadelphia Eagles overcame two TD returns by Jeremy Ross to beat the Detroit Lions 34-20 in a snowy Sunday in Philadelphia.

Eagles Defensive Special Assistant Matt Burke was the Lions LB coach from 2009-2013.
Eagles backup QB Josh McCown played one season for the Lions in 2006.
Eagles Pro Bowl DE Brandon Graham was born in Michigan and attended the University of Michigan.
Eagles DT Akeem Spence played one season for the Lions in 2017.
Recap from Last Week’s Games.
Video The Eagles offense started with another slow start and the loss of both starting WRs (Jeffrey and Jackson) on the first series did not help any. The Eagles offense struggled to maintain drives against the speedy Falcons defense who picked off Carson Wentz twice. On the other side of the ball the Eagles struggled to stop the vaunted passing attack of the Falcons led by Matt Ryan and Julo Jones. The Eagles kept it exciting as Wentz gave the Eagles a 3 point advantage with 3:13 left, but the Eagles defense couldn’t hang on giving up a 4th down 54 yard TD with 2:12 left in the game and the Eagles failed to score on their next possession giving the win to the Falcons.
Video The Lions came into the game looking to prove themselves after settling for a tie with the rebuilding Cardinals. But the Chargers dominated most of the day. They picked off Matt Stafford twice and kept the QB off balance before he connected with Kenny Galloday in the middle of the 4th quarter for a go ahead TD to give the Lions the lead. On the other side of the ball, Keenan Allen dominated the Lions Pro Bowler from last season, Darrius Slay, for most the game hauling in 8 catches for 98 yards, but Slay got the better of him at the end of the game picking off a Philip Rivers pass with a minute and ten seconds left when the Chargers were in position to attempt a 45 yard FG to tie the game. Slay's INT sealed the game giving the Lions second place in the division behind Packers and kept them undefeated.

Pro Football Focus Matchup Charts courtesy of PFF Edge (join.profootballfocus.com/edge/)
Matthew Stafford is one of the most productive Quarterbacks in NFL history, but the deep ball has never been a huge factor in his game. In 2019, that’s not been the case. In two games--so a small sample size--Stafford has averaged the second-greatest percentage of all passes being throws at least 20 yards down the field, at 22.7%. Josh Rosen is tops, so far, at 28.6%. His Deep Adjusted Completion Percentage, though (completions + drops / aimed) is and typically has been middling, at 47.1%, where the average is 43.6%.
Matchups to Watch
Lions Pass Defense vs Eagles Receivers
I had to think about whether or not the Eagles would have receivers for this game – emphasis on the plural version. In week 2, the Eagles suffered a deluge of injuries at the WR spot essentially turning the WR room into this year’s version of the 2018 CB room. For all of the good the Eagles do with coaching and analytics, they have terrible injury luck. It warrants a lot of fan inquiries into what the Eagles are actually doing with regards to player health. Philly will likely be without Alshon, DJax, and Dallas Goedert in this contest, significantly altering the teams potential game plan for the Lions. The Lions have a decent secondary with stud Darius Slay and the always fun Quandre Diggs at safety. Slay will follow the oppositions top target from time to time which could end up being Zach Ertz given the amount of Eagles injuries. They’d be wise to do that since the Lions don’t have an LB to match up with Ertz. This could give Nelson Agholor an opportunity to be a key player for the team in this contest. As we saw just a week ago, he can bail you out and also help you lose at the same time. Carson Wentz took a lot more heat that deserved for his efforts against Atlanta despite some questionable first half play by helping give this team a late lead in a game they still should have won despite the adversity. He’ll have to lean on the inexperienced depth at receiver and the coaches will have to devise a game plan to help out Carson Wentz. Being down 3 out of your top 4 targets at once is a difficult hurdle to leap but one the Eagles have no choice but to do this week. The Lions will likely do what the Falcons did and stack the box, daring them to throw. The Eagles have the QB to execute the offense, but can the remaining receivers step up in an important spot?
Lions Defensive Front vs Eagles Offensive Line
The Eagles offensive line turned in a shaky performance last week against a Falcons defensive line that was hungry, desperate to right their season, and get revenge on their recent let downs against the Eagles. Brandon Brooks is the only guy on the line to have a great game, which says a lot about his recovery. Overall, I think too much has been said about Peters this week; while he wasn’t great against Atlanta, he did play well overall and wasn’t the main problem. Isaac Seumalo was the main culprit and an utter disaster against the gifted Grady Jarrett. I understand the frustration with his play but I think we need to remember that he has turned in some solid performances for the Eagles – including week 1 against a good opponent. It’s concerning that he regressed mightily to 2017 Week 2 form so quickly, but he deserves a chance to bounce back. He better quickly as the entire Detroit DL is talented and multiple in their looks. Snack Harrison, A’Shawn Robinson, Da’shawn Hand, Trey Flowers, and Mike Daniels can be very disruptive for the Lions. Matt Patricia isn’t afraid to line these guys anywhere; we should expect him to try and exploit Seumalo like the Falcons did. Seumalo needs to step up and the coaches need to find a way to make life easier for him. One thing to note… they should be better against the run than they’ve been. It’s odd to see this unit allow over 5 YPC in the young season. If the Eagles OL can play more disciplined this week, it’ll go a long way in helping the offense stay on schedule. Furthermore, they need to keep Wentz clean. There were times where Wentz welcomed the hits but more often than not the OL was beat cleanly and Wentz had to get hit in order to keep the play alive. Look at the Nelson Agholor drop and 4th down catch for example. Both were delivered as he was being hit. Those weren’t on Wentz. The OL allowed an alarming number of hits than we’re used to seeing.
Lions Passing Offense vs Eagles Pass Defense
As long as the Eagles don’t have a CB at the level of, say, Jalen Ramsey, the secondary will always be a question mark. This is especially true in a Jim Schwartz defense that sometimes doesn’t help hide the deficiencies his CBs have, resulting in big plays the other way. The Lions have a very good receiving room despite it not being as good as the Atlanta group the Eagles just faced. I also wonder if the Rocket Scientist knows that he has the 8th best passing offense by DVOA so far this season. Anyway, Kenny Golladay and Marvin Jones are as good a deep ball pairing as you’ll see; they are paired with a QB in Stafford that has all the arm talent you could want and isn’t afraid to let it rip. Golladay and Jones don’t separate like Julio and Ridley, but they can make plays in tight situations routinely. Rookie TJ Hockenson is already a good tight end for the Lions. He can win in all areas of the field. Danny Amendola is a good underneath option to pair with the previous 3 players who help give him space to operate. Stafford is an aggressive passer that will take his shots when the opportunity presents itself, which it will Sunday. The Eagles CBs were up and down last week. Darby was roasted at times but also hung out to dry by the bad Andrew Sendejo. We saw improved play from Douglas and Jones in week 2. The Eagles will need that to continue Sunday. Hockenson will present a challenge since the Eagles haven’t faced a Tight End as talented as him in the early season. Coverage can help a pass rush, which would be useful in Philly’s case since the DL hasn’t been nearly as effective while sustaining injuries. They will need to clean up the mistakes they continue to see on the back end or else they’ll continue to allow big play after big play. Mixing up coverage tendencies would help the Eagles out too since it would present an entirely different look than what Schwartz normally shows. The most efficient way to win in the NFL is to pass and stop the pass. So far this season, the Eagles haven’t done a great job at stopping the pass. That needs to change and quickly.

Before we start, I must reiterate, I am not personally advocating for a cottboy, I just know that many (including myself) will be taking part in one. We good? Anyhow. So... you don't want to watch the new Star Wars movie Well, you're in the right place then. Welcome to an in-depth look into the movies gracing cinemas this Holiday season, because try as Disney might, there is a hell of a lot more to enjoy this holiday season than The Rise Ruse of Skywalker. I have organized this thread in a manner that matches the right film to the right audience, but there is definitely some overlap. Also, if the titles of the films are blue, I've attached the trailer. Enjoy, and let me know what you want to see this holiday season... if anything (there's plenty of great Christmas movies to share with family, Video Games, Theatrical Shows, Concerts, etc.). With that being said, let's get started... Section 1: The Family Get-Together Star Wars has always been enjoyed together by families. It was my father who introduced it to me, and his mother to him (his dad was a big-time Star Trek fan and was not so fond of Lucas' work). Over the past 3 of four years, Star Wars films have been shared by families, delighting many with Force Awakens and Rogue One, and angering/delighting/befuddling/dividing them with The Last Jedi. With this in mind, maybe the family isn't in the mood for Star Wars this year, and it's time to take a break. Honestly, I can't blame 'em. This list will outline some of the many movies you and your family can enjoy this holiday season. Jumanji: The Next Level
I'm sure this movie needs no introduction, but for the three of you out of the loop, Jumanji: The Next Level is the sequel to the surprisingly enjoyable Jumanji: Welcome to The Jungle, itself a reboot/sequel to the original Jumanji. All of the cast from the prior movies reprises their roles in this one, alongside new additions Awkwafina, Danny Glover, and Danny DeVito. This looks like it provides the same escapist fun as the prior movie, and it set to open on December 13th, a week before TROS.
Yes, yes, the CGI is horrifying, and it looks off. However, the show it is based off a lot of family fun and is enjoyable to the child at heart. The music is quite enjoyable and the choreography great. I think this is a pretty safe choice for families at Christmas, and the cast has pretty much someone for everyone. Cats opens December 20th, the same day as TROS.
Super Intelligence is the latest from director Ben Falcone, and his much more notable wife Melissa McCarthy. Melissa stars as an office worker who finds herself taking part in a trial with the world's smartest computer, played by James Corden. Think Ex Machina, but a bit more comedic and family-friendly. Falcone and McCarthy's collaborations typically aren't phenomenal, but I think they are enjoyable enough to earn a few laughs. This is a pretty safe bet, if not admittedly the most exciting on paper. It opens December 20th, the same day as Cats and TROS.
An adaptation of the famous book of the same name, Little Women is the sophomore movie from director Greta Gerwig after the massively successful Lady Bird. Saoirse Ronan and Timothee Chalamet reunite with Gerwig, and Meryl Streep, Laura Dern, Chris Cooper, Eliza Scanlon, Emma Watson, Bob Odenkirk and rising star Florence Pugh round out the cast. Little Women is opening wide Christmas Day.
I'm trying to keep early November movies to a minimum, as their box-office legs make the difference between life and death at the multiplex. One film I am confident will have the staying power, however, is Last Christmas. A romantic comedy with Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding in the lead roles, and Paul Feig behind the camera, this should suit a date night nicely. Apparently, the film also features some unreleased George Michael music, so for fans of his, there is a lot to enjoy. Last Christmas is set to open the 8th of November.
Do I even have to bother writing here? Just note, your money goes to Disney. That's all I have to say. There is no way you won't know when it opens... but in case you need a headstart, it is set for Thanksgiving.
The latest from Blue Sky Animation, this movie tells the story of a spy, played by Will Smith, who turns into a Pigeon. Looks cute. As Disney purchased 20th Century Fox, the money goes to them. Just a fair warning. Spies in Disguise is set to open Christmas Day.
Section 2: The (Oscar) Gold Diggers For those who love to keep up on the buzziest awards season movies, this is the section for you. Before we start, it must be noted many of these movies open in limited release, so availability will vary. Ah well, nothing wrong with seeing it a few weeks later, although it may not brighten up your holiday season. It also must be noted those surprise contenders from TIFF, Telluride, NYFF, Venice and AFI have yet to emerge, and may be dated as distributors are added (for example, I, Tonya was a last-minute surprise). Little Women See the writeup in section 1. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood
This touching dramedy tells the story of a real friendship between a grumpy, down-on-his-luck reporter for Esquire, and the man who warmed his icy heart: Mr. Rogers. Tom Hanks dons the iconic sweater as Rogers. It is set for release on Thanksgiving.
Queen and Slim is a drama written by Emmy darling Lena Waithe. It tells the story of a young black couple on the run after a stop by the police goes south. Queen and Slim is set for release on November 27th.
Knives Out is the latest from writer-director Rian Johnson, the visionary genius behind STC's favorite movie The Last Jedi. Already, I've lost the bulk of ya and I don't blame ya, I'm pretty much out too. However, for those who liked Rian before this fiasco and are willing to separate art from the artist, Knives Out opens November 27th.
Untitled Jay Roach Movie
Talk about a riveting title! This movie tells the story of the women who stepped up and brought to light the abuse of businessman Roger Ailes. John Lithgow stars as Ailes, and the cast is absolutely packed with stars including Charlize Theron, Margot Robbie, Nicole Kidman, Alison Janney, Mark Duplass, Kate McKinnon and Alice Eve to name but a few. It is set for release on December 20th, likely limited.
Uncut Gems is a riveting thriller from the Safdie Brothers, the directors of Good Time. Adam Sandler leads the film in his first dramatic role in years. Should prove to be a... good time (sorry for that). It is set to be released starting on December 13th and should expand.
The Aeronauts is the latest from director Tom Harper and stars Felicity Jones and Eddie Redmayne. Theatrical plans are limited, but it should be on Amazon Prime Video shortly after its theatrical run on December 6th.
A Hidden Life
A Hidden Life is the latest from director Terrence Malick and earned rave reviews at Cannes. It tells the story of a Conscientious Objector during WWII. It is being released by Fox Searchlight, a division of Disney, starting on December 13th (please don't discount due to Disney, FSL needs all the help it can get under that monopolistic dragon).
Just Mercy is the latest from Destin Daniel Cretton and tells the story of a young lawyer played by Michael B. Jordan, and his attempts to free an innocent man from death row, played by Jaime Foxx. Brie Larson rounds out the main cast as an ally to Jordan's character. It is set for limited release on December 25th.
1917 is a World War I movie from director Sam Mendes, also known for his work on the last two James Bond movies. Plot details are scarce, but apparently, the film is presented in one continuous shot, similar to Birdman. It is set for a limited run on Christmas followed by an expansion in January.
Part III: Genre Fans Genre fans, there is a lot more to enjoy this Holiday season than smelly old Ruse of Skywalker. Here is a taste of some of the movies to come. The Rhythm Section
The Rhythm Section is a spy thriller with Blake Lively in the lead role and Jude Law supporting. The film is set to be directed by Reed Morano and produced by Barbara Broccoli of James Bond fame. No trailer yet, it is set for release Thanksgiving.
Also set for release on Thanksgiving, this New York City police thriller stars Chadwick Boseman and was produced by the Russo Brothers. The first trailer looks quite promising!
See write-up in Section II... if you dare.
A remake of the cult classic of the same name, this movie just entered production. Hopefully, it makes the deadline. It is being produced by Blumhouse, the new kings of horror. The film is set for release on December 13th.

Section IV: Miscellaneous Here are some of the movies that may or may not be in theaters come December 20th or later, so consult at your own discretion: Ford v. Ferrari The Good Liar The Report The Lodge Charlie's Angels Honey Boy Midway Playing with Fire Harriet Motherless Brooklyn Terminator: Dark Fate Doctor Sleep JoJo Rabbit The Lighthouse Maleficent: Mistress of Evil In Fabric Zombieland: Double Tap. So, TL/DR, scroll quickly through and see if something catches your interest. I hope you enjoyed the list. And remember, we are the spark, that lights the flame, that burns the wax, that melts the wood, that smokes the salmon, that is consumed by the bear, that is hunted by the hunter, who is tangentially related to the person in charge of deciding how to fix the mess that is the ST. ;)
2019.06.13 19:41 Blackbutterfly79Happy Pre-Juneteenth: Ta-Nehisi Coates & Danny Glover will testify about reparations for slavery on Capitol Hill....How well will they represent ADOS?
The topic of reparations for slavery is headed to Capitol Hill for its first hearing in more than a decade with the writer Ta-Nehisi Coates and actor Danny Glover set to testify before a House of Representatives panel. The House judiciary subcommittee on the constitution, civil rights and civil liberties is scheduled to hold the hearing on 19 June, with its stated purpose “to examine, through open and constructive discourse, the legacy of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade, its continuing impact on the community and the path to restorative justice”.
Democrats and slavery reparations: where do 2020 candidates stand?
The date of the hearing coincides with Juneteenth, a cultural holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved Africans in America. The former Democratic representative John Conyers of Michigan, the longtime sponsor of House Resolution 40, first proposed the measure calling for a study of reparations in 1989. Conyers reintroduced the bill every session until his resignation in 2017, following sexual harassment allegations. The Texas Democratic representative Sheila Jackson Lee, the resolution’s new sponsor, introduced it earlier this year and pushed for next week’s hearing. The House speaker, Nancy Pelosi, said in February that she supports a reparations study, a topic that has not been the subject of a House hearing since 2007. Reparations had been a semi-dormant issue and occasional punchline in recent years, until Coates’s 2014 essay in the Atlantic magazine, The Case for Reparations, thrust the topic back into the national discourse. Glover, an activist as well as the star of hit movies such as the Lethal Weapon series and the classics The Color Purple and A Rage in Harlem, has spoken in favor of the issue for years. In an interview with Coates as he prepared to leave the presidency, Barack Obama questioned the implementation of reparations, but not the concept. And in a conversation Coates had earlier this year with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a Democratic representative of New York, the popular progressive freshman member of Congress endorsed reparations. The reparations debate became part of the 2020 presidential race early, as several Democratic presidential primary candidates signaled their support for compensating the descendants of slaves, though not in the traditional sense of direct payouts to black Americans. Most have been vague on more specific ideas, but they have instead offered policies addressing economic inequality wth measures that could disproportionately benefit blacks. https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/jun/13/reparations-slavery-congress-hearing-ta-nehisi-coates-danny-glover
2019.06.10 23:08 TigerKirby215Determining the age of the Survivors
After seeing this post I started to wonder about the age of all the Survivors. Looking over their lore no Survivor really has a difinitive statements on their ages but there are key events we can reference to judge their age.
Most liscensed Survivors has an age which can be referenced in their original movie. The exceptions to this rule are Bill Overbeck from Left 4 Dead and David Tapp from SAW, who both never mention their age in their original media. Here's the definitive age of every liscensed Survivor with a confirmed age:
Laurie Strode is based on her apperance in the 1978 film. In that movie she was supposed to be 17 years old.
Quentin Smith was 17 in the Nightmare on Elm Street remake, but his Dead by Daylight apperance is meant to have happened a few years after the movie. Therefore I'd place him at around 19 years old.
Ashley Williams was born on April 8th, 1957. While his age is said to be "in his 50s" according to the Ash V.S. Evil Dead TV show I think it's fairly safe to base Ash's age on the age of Bruce Campbell, whos real life age is pretty close to Ash's. Therefor Ash is likely around 60 years old.
The Other Liscensed Characters
Tapp and Bill never have their ages referenced, so I'm going off some speculation here.
Bill Overbeck is a war veteran who fought in the Vietnam War. It's unclear when he joined the battle but it's safe to assume he was in his prime (35 recruitment age to join the US army) between 1955 and 1975 when the Vietnam War was fought. While no definitive date is set for the events of the Left 4 Dead video games I think it's fairly safe to assume that they're meant to take place around the time that the game was released worldwide. In the case of Left 4 Dead 1 that would be in 2008. If we say that Bill enlisted in the Vietnam war fairly early on (ease of reference we'll say 1960) and then lived up until the events of Left 4 Dead where he died in the Left Behind chapter, that would put 48 years into his life between The War and L4D1. If we say that he was 35 when he inlisted in the US Army and then lived for 48 more years, that would put him at approximately 83 years old.(Excuse me Valve?)
Wikipedia's page on David Tapp puts him in his mid 50s. For ease of reference we can look at the age of Danny Glover at the time that SAW 1 was filmed. SAW was filmed in 2004, which would've meant that Danny Glover would be about 58 years old during the filming of the movie. It's safe to assume that Tapp is around that age.
Various Survivors have mentions of events in their lives that can help pinpoint a possible age for them. These include either timelines of their life events or references to age making it possible to tell their age based on apperance. With that in mind here's the full list of Survivors who we can accurately guess the age of:
Nea Karlsson's rebelious phase is referenced as starting when she was 16. She was dared by her friends to spray paint Crotus Pen which is when she disappeared. If we say she was friends with her gang for about 2 to 3 years we can put Nea at about 19 years old.
Ace Visconti's lore describes him as looking like "an ageing 50's movies star." Assuming that this means that he would be around 20 during the 1950s, this means we can put his birth year some time during the 1930s. If we assume that he found his way into The Entity's Realm at the time the "Of Flesh and Mud" DLC was added (2016) that would put Ace at about 86 years old. I may be grossly overestimating Ace's age here to be fair as he's still "in his prime" meaning that he was possibly taken during the early 2000s (putting him somewhere around 70.)
Kate Denson has many references to her age in her life events, even down to her "earliest childhood memory" of singing for her family. She's said to have been old enough to drive and presumably old enough to live on her own, meaning that she was about 18 years old at the time. She was taken in a forest in her home town, but this is the one time stamp that has no written age. It's safe to say that this was early on in her music career, once again putting her at around 20 years old.
Adam Francis is known to have started an education career in Japan several years after graduating University, and he spent enough time in the country to learn the language and the nation before being taken by The Entity. I think this would put him in his early 30s, approximately 33 years old for the sake of a concrete age.
Jeff Johansen has a full life story in his lore, but the main fact to bring up is that he reattended University to get an art degree and worked for awhile designing beer logos before he had to go back home when his father died. I think it's fair to say that Jeff graduated school for a second time when he was around 30, and probably worked until his early 40s before going to take care of his home. Overall I'd say that Jeff is likely somewhere around 42 years old, given all his life events before being taken by The Entity.
Jane Romero's first bit of concrete age-based lore is her time spent as a teenager acting in plays and TV commericals. After she graduated college (aprox 24) she starred on a variety show for 5 months before being fired. Along with other events at that time she'd be around 25 years old when she was asked to co-host "Quick Talk." After two years of working on Quick Talk she managed to launch "The Jane Romero Show" where she quickly became famous. Some time after that (let's say a year) she wrote her biography, and then did a show with her mother which went haywire. This was the point that her car crashed and she was taken by The Entity. In total I'd put her in her late 20s or early 30s, but for ease-of-reference we can say that she was 30 years old when The Entity took her.
These Survivors have very little if any concrete evidence as to what their age could be. These guesses are based entirely on their apperance and various small tidbits from their lore.
Dwight Fairfield is described as a high school student in his lore, but is also said to be working a "dead-end job" when he was taken by The Entity. I think it's safe to say that this means that Dwight had graduated recently and was stuck in a crappy job due to the poor grades referenced in his lore. Doubt he went to University so we can maybe place him in his late teens / early 20s: somewhere around 19 years old.
Meg Thomas is known to have graduated high school, but declined going to college to take care of her ill mother. If we assume that Meg graduated high school at 18 and took care of her mother for 2 years or so we can put her at 20 years old.
Claudette Morel is said to have gotten an "early scholarship at a great college" and was brought into The Entity's Realm during her college years. If we assume that "early scholarship" implies that she graduated a year early (17) and she was taken into The Entity's Realm 2 years into her college years that would probably put her at about 19 years old.
Jake Park has probably the least references to age in his lore. The only vague thing to go by is the fact that his (presumably older) brother graduated from Yale, which caused Jake to drop out of school (presumably high school.) From that point onwards he lived alone and eventually disappeared, though it's unclear for how long. Educated guess would be that Jake dropped out at 17 and lived alone for about two to three years, putting him at hey guess what another original Survivor is20 years old.
The only reference for Feng Min's age is the fact that she was an in-her-prime eSports gamer but eventually started losing and fell into destructive behavior and a drinking problem. Feng still appears to be a teenager / young adult, so if we assume that Feng signed up to join her eSports team at the age that she was a legal adult (18 in China) we could maybe put her at around 20 years old, saying that she kept her win streak up for about 2 years.
David King has absolutely no reference of age; not even a high school timeline. It's said that he had good academic and athletic career which probably means he graduated at a normal age. The one thing that is referenced is his short-lived rugby career. It seems that this was during his university years as he was cut off as a rookie, and a violent outburst at a sports referee in high school would've probably caused him to be held back a year. His career as a "debt collector" as well as the time he spent in underground fight clubs probably puts him at a bit of an older age than average. I'd say David is around 22 years old.
So having all the Survivor's ages written down I think it would make sense to give a full list of all the Survivors from youngest to oldest, with markers indicating each aproximate age group. That being said here's the full list:
17 Years Old - Laurie Strode
19 Years Old - Quentin Smith, Nea Karlsson, Dwight Fairfield, Claudette Morel
20 Years Old - Kate Denson, Meg Thomas, Jake Park, Feng Min
22 Years Old - David King
30 Years Old - Jane Romero
33 Years Old - Adam Francis
42 Years Old - Jeff Johansen
58 Years Old - David Tapp
60 Years Old - Ash Williams
83 Years Old - Bill Overbeck
86 Years Old - Ace Visconti
This is of course just speculation, as I may be grossly overestimating or understimating certain characters' ages.

Hey everyone sorry about the delay it’s been a hectic day at work, but without further ado here is the all-time roster for my favorite team, the Saints. How did I select my team? Longevity, productivity, and impact were definitely the biggest factors for all of my selections. It took an extremely productive couple of seasons to earn a spot on the all-time roster and there are a few players who managed to make their way on the list. I also only focused on the players time with the franchise so great players like Adrian Peterson and Champ Bailey who spent a brief amount of time with the team did not qualify. I also included honorable mentions at positions where I went back and forth on who makes the cut. The team also released their 50th anniversary team with the team designated 50 best players which I did reference, but you may notice are not identical. You can see the team’s 50th anniversary roster here (saints50.com/top50-players) Head Coach: Sean Payton Honorable Mention: Jim Mora QB: Drew Brees, Archie Manning, and Aaron Brooks Honorable Mention: Bobby Hebert We start the all-time roster with the easiest selection for the New Orleans Saints. One of only 3 QB’s to have beaten every NFL team in the league, the NFL record holder for highest season completion %, the all time leading passer in NFL history, most consecutive seasons with over 4,500 passing yards with 7, most 5,000 yard passing seasons at 5, Super Bowl 44 MVP, and I could make an entire post dedicated to just his accolades; Drew Brees is the greatest player to wear the black and gold. Backing up Drew is the man most known now for fathering perhaps the greatest regular season QB in Peyton, the Patriot slayer Eli, and the “other” Manning, Cooper. Archie Manning was a respectable QB back in his heyday, but unfortunately the Saints couldn’t protect him and was sacked 337 times during his time in the black and gold and he also finished with 125-173 (TD-INT) ratio, but during the time of the “Aint’s” Archie was a lone bright spot. Aaron Brooks takes the final QB spot on the team. Brooks flashed all the talent in the world, even beating the Greatest Show on Turf in his first postseason start, but was maddeningly inconsistent which is why many fans are divided on him. Both backup QB’s are members of the Saints Hall of Fame, with Brees’ spot already locked in once he hangs up his cleats. RB: Alvin Kamara, Deuce McAllister, George Rogers, Ricky Williams Honorable Mention: Mark Ingram, Pierre Thomas The Saints running backs have typically consisted of quiet, yet steady producers, but the first name in our RB group has flashed the potential to become a HOF talent. Alvin Kamara has a dangerous combination of speed, elusiveness, and power rarely seen at his position. He catches passes with the efficiency of a Wide Receiver, can change his running style from elusive to powerful at ease, and is a serviceable blocker, though rarely used (almost a waste to even suggest he spend time blocking with his skill set). Kamara is second all time in AV per game only behind Drew Brees and entering his 3rd season, the sky truly is the limit for our AirHead loving enigma. Deuce McAllister has an argument to lead the stable of running backs and if it wasn’t for my own personal opinion of Kamara, he’d be the #1 RB. Deuce holds the Saints record for most career rushing yards and is second in career rushing TD’s (having his record broken by Mark Ingram this past season). Deuce took over after Ricky was sent to Miami and had two straight pro bowl appearances and finished the 2003 season with over 2,000 all purpose yards. Knee injuries and Sean Payton’s love of the committee approach unfortunately limited the career trajectory of Deuce, but he will forever be loved and still receives his “DEEEEEUUUUCCEEE” chants in the dome when he makes an appearance. George Rogers and Ricky Williams round out the RB group with shocking similarities. Both RB’s are unfortunately overshadowed by their draft classes (Rogers being taken before Lawrence Taylor and Ricky costing the entire 1999 draft classes), both were Heisman trophy winning RB’s entering the NFL (Reggie Bush and Mark Ingram also share this distinction), and both had short, yet productive seasons with the team marred by drug issues. FB: Craig Heyward, Hokie Gajan Fullback was the toughest position to choose from because of the changing dynamic of the fullback over the years so I tried to find players specifically identified as a fullback for these purposes. We start with player whose nickname fits the fullback perfectly. “Ironhead” Craig Heyward spent 5 seasons with the Saints, where he was drafted with the 24th pick of the 1988 draft. “Ironhead” was a member of the backfield on teams that made the playoffs in all but two of the seasons he was there and never fell below .500. Hokie Gajan was built for the city of New Orleans. Born in NO, he played college ball at LSU, and was eventually drafted by the Saints. Though injuries cut his career short, he was a productive player and is one of 19 backs to exceed 6 ypc in a season (with more than 100 attempts). Hokie became a scout for the team after his career and then joined Jim Henderson in the broadcast team for Saints radio broadcasts. Unfortunately both players passed away from cancer, but they will always be remembered by Saints fans (Cancer sucks). WR: Joe Horn, Marques Colston, Michael Thomas, Eric Martin, Danny Abramowicz Honorable Mention: Brandin Cooks If the RB group was characterized as “quiet, yet productive”, I’d say the WR group was “loud, but under appreciated”. “Hollywood” Joe Horn began his career with the Chiefs, but turned into one of the best WR’s in the early 00’s once he arrived in the Bayou earning 3 straight pro bowl appearances from 00-02 where he averaged 1,300 yards and 8 TD’s. Most people outside of Saints fans only know Joe as the “Cell Phone celebration guy”, but he was a dominating force at WR finishing his career with all the main Receiving franchise records, until his counterpart broke several. If Horn was Yin, then Marques Colston was Yang. Given the moniker “Quiet Storm” Colston was exactly that. One of the greatest 7th round picks ever, Colston finished his career with nearly 10,000 yards receiving, 700+ catches, and the most TD’s in franchise history, yet never made a pro bowl in his entire career. Colston played inside/outside and never once complained or got himself into any trouble off the field, a true professional. Michael Thomas is probably the most talented WR of this group and if all goes as planned, he’ll finish his career as the best WR to wear the Black and Gold. “Can’t Guard Mike” has the aggressive personality of Horn, but the quiet domination of Colston. In 3 seasons Mike is 9th in franchise receiving yards and 7th in receptions, but if he keeps at this pace, will be 4th in both categories by the end of next season. Eric Martin was the both the franchises best 7th round pick and WR until Colston and Horn came around. Playing 10 seasons for the Saints, Martin created a productive NFL career for himself. Finishing with nearly 8,000 yards and 50 TD’s, Martin is well deserving of his spot in the Saints Hall of Fame and on the all-time roster. Danny Abramowicz was a member of the Saints inaugural team and spent 6 full seasons as the Saints go to guy in the air. He finished with nearly 5,000 yards receiving and is 4th all time in franchise receiving yards and 8th in receptions. TE: Jimmy Graham, Hoby Brenner, Henry Childs Honorable Mention: Jeremy Shockey Did you guys know Jimmy Graham played basketball? The tight end group is headlined by one of the best tight ends of the new era (before injuries struck) and has a large drop off in talent from there. Jimmy entered the league as a “project” pick with only 1 year of collegiate football experience, but really took the league by storm in 2011, his second season. He was the first to break Kellen Winslow’s single season receiving yard record (Gronk then went to break Jimmy’s record later that same day) and was the first TE in franchise history to have more than 1k yards receiving. In his 4 seasons as a starter Graham averaged 88 receptions, 1,100 receiving yards, and 11 TD’s. If not for a contract dispute which led to his eventual trade and Gronks dominance, there would be an argument for Jimmy as the greatest tight end of all time. The final members of the tight end group are relatively unknown outside of older Saints fans. Hoby Brenner and Henry Childs both share a pro bowl appearance at TE and rank in the top 15 in franchise receiving yards. Brenner spent 13 seasons for the Saints under Jim Mora and Childs spent 7 seasons from 74-80. Neither amassed over 4,000 total receiving yards in their careers, hence the drop off from Graham, but both are members of the Saints Hall of Fame. OL: Willie Roaf, Stan Brock, Terron Armstead, Zach Strief, Jahri Evans, Carl Nicks, Jim Dombrowski, Max Unger, LeCharles Bentley, Jake Kupp Honorable Mention: Jon Stinchcomb, Jamal Brown Offensive line play in New Orleans was nearly non-existent and rough to watch in the early days, but we have been blessed since then. The strongest characteristics of this list are longevity and dominance. Headlining the list are HOF Offensive Tackle Willie Roaf and future HOF Offensive Guard Jahri Evans. Roaf spent 9 seasons as the anchor of the offensive linemen missing the pro bowl in only 2 seasons, being his rookie year and an injury plagued year where he only played in 7 games. Otherwise, Roaf missed only 1 game in his career. Evans was one of the best guards of this decade, missing only 7 games in his 11 seasons with the Saints. From 2009-2014 Evans was named to the pro bowl every season and had 4 first team All Pro’s. Evans is also 3rd in franchise AV, behind only Drew Brees and Rickey Jackson. Offensive guard Carl Nicks’ career was short, but memorable. Many experts argue had Nicks not gotten hurt he had hall of fame potential, but in his 4 seasons with the Saints he notched 1 pro bowl and all pro year never missing a game. Right tackle Stan Brock is 4th in total AV for the franchise, spending 13 seasons with the franchise and starting all 16 games in 8 of them. Max Unger had been so good for the Saints that he actually made the Jimmy Graham trade look like a success, despite us using the 1st round pick on a player who is no longer with the team and that’s saying something. In Unger’s 4 seasons with the Saints, he only missed 1 game and notched 1 pro bowl appearance. He was an iron man at center for the team and his recent retirement has left a hole in the team’s offensive line that will be difficult to replace. Rounding out the backup offensive tackles are Zach Strief and Terron Armstead. Strief was a member of the 2006 draft class that really began the turnaround from the franchise being a lovable loser to legit contender after Hurricane Katrina. He spent 12 seasons with the team taking over in 2011 at Right Tackle after being the teams 6th offensive linemen and never letting go of the position until his successor, Ryan Ramczyk, was drafted. Armstead was drafted as an ultra athletic prospect in 2013 and has not disappointed while he’s on the field; however, Armstead has yet to play an entire 16 game season. When healthy Armstead is one of, if not the best, left tackles in the league. LeCharles Bentley mans the backup Center position for the all time team. Bentley began his position at guard gaining a pro bowl appearance, before moving back to his original position of Center, also notching a pro bowl berth. If not for differences between the team and Bentley, as well as career ending injuries, Bentley would have manned the center position for much longer than his 4 seasons here. Jim Dombrowski spent 11 seasons with the team, beginning his career at left tackle, then moving to left guard where he started every game except for the 93 season. Jake Kupp was an original member of the expansion Saints, being selected from the Washington Redskins. After being released briefly, Kupp returned to the team to a pro bowl berth and 8 more seasons with the team. DE: Cameron Jordan, Wayne Martin, Will Smith, Joe Johnson Honorable Mention: Frank Warren The Saints have benefited from quality production at the defensive end position throughout the years, despite a seemingly constant need at the position. We start out the defense with the best defensive player the Saints have had since the great Rickey Jackson. Cameron Jordan is quite possibly the most underrated edge defender in the NFL, bias aside. Over the past 2 seasons Cam has more sacks than Von Miller and Khalil Mack, is top 5 in TFL, and has as many pass deflections as one of the NFL’s best CB’s, Xavier Rhodes. He can do everything AND then some. Since taking over as a full time starter he has never missed a game or averaged less than 7.5 sacks and 8 TFL in a season. Wayne Martin is the Saints current leader in sacks on the defensive line and 2nd overall behind Jackson. From the 91-99 season Martin never missed a start, averaged 7 sacks a season in the Fleur-de-Lis (with 4 consecutive 10+ sack seasons) and was able to successfully rush from the inside as well as outside, leading the NFC in sacks in 1995. Joe Johnson was opposite Martin and wreaked just as much havoc on opposing QBs as Martin. Johnson’s best years sandwiched a season ending injury where he made the pro bowl in 98, missed all of 99, but came back and had a career year in 2000, winning the NFL’s comeback player of the year for his 12 sack season. Will Smith rounds out the defensive end group as the originator of the bicep kiss celebration. Smith only had more than 10 sacks in a season twice during his career, but made his presence felt in many other ways. Smith’s shining moment perhaps came during Super Bowl 44 where he blocked Peyton Manning on Porter’s pick 6 and is seen running with him straight to the endzone. Smith’s life was tragically ended as he was shot and killed in New Orleans during a road rage incident in 2016 and was posthumously inducted into the Saints Hall of Fame later that year. DT: La’Roi Glover, Derland Moore, Jim Wilks Defensive tackle has been a position that has struggled over the years for the franchise with only 1 Pro-Bowl or All-Pro player at the position in the entire franchise’s history; however, this player had one of the best defensive seasons in DT history. La’Roi Glover is one of the most underrated players at his position. In 2000, Glover won the NFC Defensive Player of the Year, leading the league in sacks with 17, a feat that has yet to be replicated in Saints history. Glover was a two time pro bowl and one time all pro player during his time in New Orleans spending 5 seasons and wreaking havoc in the black and gold. Glover’s 50 sacks at the DT position lead the franchise and is currently 8th best all time, despite spending the least amount of time with the team compared to any other player in the top 10. Once Glover became the full time starter at DT, he also never missed a game. While Derland Moore may not have produced the ridiculous stat lines that someone that Glover had, his career in the black and gold was a long and productive one. Moore played with the team from 73-85, playing in 170 games despite going through 7 head coaches. Moore led the team through his heart and effort, often playing injured. Had statistics been kept before the 80’s, Moore would’ve have finished with anywhere between 40-50 sacks throughout his career. Jim Wilks often spent his time at defensive end, but he also played a few seasons at DT. Wilks was a fixture on the defensive line from 1981 to 1993, playing a key role on those defensive squads manned by the Dome Patrol. Despite playing alongside other pass rush specialists, Wilks was able to finish his career in the top 10 sacks in franchise history. LB: Rickey Jackson, Vaughn Johnson, Sam Mills, Pat Swilling, Jonathan Vilma, Joe Federspiel, Renaldo Turnbull Honorable Mention: Scott Fujita I was going to split linebackers into outside and inside, but for this group it almost seems like a disservice to do so. The second easiest selection outside of Drew Brees for an all-time Saints roster is the Dome Patrol. Rickey Jackson, Vaughn Johnson, Sam Mills, and Pat Swilling formed the greatest linebacking corps of all time. Between the corps time with the Saints they accumulated 18 Pro Bowl appearances, 10 first team All-Pros, 214 sacks, 89 forced fumbles, 18 interceptions, and 3,016 tackles. The group were all invited to the pro bowl in 1992, becoming the only time in history and entire line backing group were given pro bowl invitations. Unfortunately, the Dome Patrol’s dominance didn’t carry over into the postseason and they went 0-4 during their time. Jackson is the only member of the group to be enshrined in the Hall of Fame, but the entire group is part of the Saints Hall of Fame. Jackson is considered the second greatest player to wear black and gold only behind Brees and the other members are in the top 20 in franchise AV. Backing up our star studded linebackers is a LB that I wanted to start, but I didn’t want to break up the group. Jonathan Vilma captained the Saints ball hawking defense during their Super Bowl run after coming from the Jets in trade. Vilma filled an area of need with his high IQ and elite athleticism during, displayed with his high tackle numbers but also ability to rush the passer and coverage skills. Vilma made the pro bowl twice during his time and led the team in tackles the 3 seasons he was fully healthy. Joe Federspiel and Renaldo Turnbull round out the teams linebacker group. Federspiel manned the middle linebacker position for 9 seasons from 1972-1980, before any major defensive statistics were recorded, but he has the next highest AV behind the members of the Dome Patrol. Turnbull broke onto the scene as a rookie rotational pass rusher and was second on the team with sacks (9). He then took over for Swilling after his departure in 92 and filled in admirably leading the team in sacks with 13 and gaining both pro-bowl and all-pro honors that season. Turnbull’s numbers dropped afterwards, but he was still productive with at least 6.5 sacks the next 3 seasons. CB: Dave Waymer, Tracy Porter, Dave Whitsell, Mike McKenzie, Marshon Lattimore Honorable Mention: Johnnie Poe, Jabari Greer, Keenan Lewis Cornerback is the most difficult position to play in the NFL and it has also been one of the weaker positions for the Saints throughout franchise history. While there have been bright spots and flashes, we haven’t had much sustained high level play at the position. We begin the list with a turnover machine at CB, Dave Waymer. Waymer had a nose for the football leading the franchise all time in interceptions with 37 and is 3rd all-time in defensive fumble recoveries with 15. Waymer enjoyed a 10 year career with the Saints only missing time in two seasons, securing a pro bowl berth in 1987. Sadly, Waymer passed away during the 1993 offseason due to heart attack, related to cocaine abuse. Waymer’s running mate at CB will be the most impactful CB in franchise history, delivering some of the team’s biggest plays in franchise history. Tracy Porter delivered not 1, but 2 game changing interceptions in the 2009 postseason. With the NFC championship slipping away, Porter intercepted an errant throw by Brett Favre and sent the game into OT. Two weeks after his champ game heroics, he delivered on the biggest stage of them all, Super Bowl 44. Porter jumped a route and took his interception 74 yards to secure the franchises first Lombardi trophy. Porter may not have had the longevity of the other corners on this list, or even the overall career, but his plays have had the biggest impact of any defensive back in Saints history and he deserves a spot on this list. Dave Whitsell was selected in the Saints expansion draft from the Bears in 1967. Whitsell became the franchises first ever Pro Bowl player, delivering a 10 interception season. In Whitsell’s 3 seasons with the franchise, he produced 19 interceptions. Mike McKenzie came to the Saints at the backend of his career but managed to produce for the Saints. In the 2006-2007 seasons McKenzie had 27 pass deflections (5th all time in franchise history), 5 interceptions (including 2 returned for TDs) and my favorite moment is his return in 2009. Due to dire need at CB, McKenzie returned on Monday Night Football in the Saints biggest test to date against the Patriots, and picked off Tom Brady. Marshon Lattimore perhaps may be the most talented CB in franchise history. His ability to shut down an opposing teams #1 target is something that the franchise has searched for since signing Mike McKenzie back in 2004. His rare blend of ball skills, athleticism, and physicality all set him up for a bright future in the NFL. It wouldn’t be a stretch to say that should he continue his stellar play, he’ll end his career as the best CB in franchise history. S: Tom Myers, Sammy Knight, Gene Atkins, Roman Harper Honorable Mention: Darren Sharper Both starting safeties and backup safeties for the Saints have similar characteristics. Tom Myers begins the list with the 2nd most interceptions in franchise history, only 1 behind Waymer, and is tied with Waymer in fumble recoveries. Myers played with the team during their early years from 1972-1981, earning a Pro-Bowl and All-Pro berth in 1979. Myers turned every turnover into an offensive possession tied for 1st in defensive touchdowns and leads the team in interception return yardage. Sammy Knight had the type of career that any UDFA would dream of. Over his 6 year career at Strong Safety with the Saints, Knight had 28 interceptions (3rd all time), 36 pass deflections (9th), and leads the franchise in pick-6’s. Knight was also an Ironman at his position missing 2 games during his time, while alternating between both safety positions. The backup safety selections were both chosen for their ability to be defensive Swiss Army knives. Gene Atkins and Roman Harper both had the ability to stuff the stat sheet in a variety of ways. Atkins’ perhaps most obvious season to display that trait was during his 1991 season in which he started at FS and KR, while finishing the season with 5 interceptions (2nd on the team), 3 sacks (5th), 4 forced fumbles (2nd), and finishing 2nd in tackles. Harper may seem like an odd choice because most people outside of Saints fans remember him for his inability to contain Vernon Davis during the 2011 Divisional playoff game, but he finished his career top 10 in many statistics in franchise history. His 52 deflections (3rd all time), 14 sacks (1st at safety), 15 forced fumbles (6th), and 551 tackles (4th) stack up with any other defensive back in franchise history. K: Morten Andersen There is only logical choice at Kicker in franchise history and he happens to be, at worst, the 2nd best kicker in NFL history. Morten Andersen finished his career 2nd in FG’s made, 2nd in points scored, is the all time leader in games played, is the franchise’s leader in points, 7 Pro-Bowl berths, 6 All-Pro’s, and is the 2nd ever kicker to be inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. No further explanation needed, the man is simply the best. P: Thomas Morstead Thomas Morstead’s heart is as big as his leg, and he’s 3rd in career yards per punt. Known outside of New Orleans for his charitable adventures, Morstead is best known for being the franchise leader in punts, yards, and yards per punt. Oh and he also delivered the biggest onside kick in Super Bowl history during his rookie season, no big deal. ST: Steve Gleason Honorable Mention: Taysom Hill While some of the franchise’s biggest moments were mentioned earlier, the franchise’s biggest moment was delivered by a man who never gave up on a play and is committed to “No White Flags” in his life. Steve Gleason’s blocked punt on Monday Night Football during the Superdome’s reopening is a play that no Saints fan will ever forget. That play brought hope to a city that desperately needed it after Hurricane Katrina and it has since been memorialized as a statue outside the dome as a reminder to fans and a warning to other NFL teams to “never punt”. Steve Gleason is an extraordinary human being and deserves to be a member of the All-Saints roster regardless of his on the field career.

2018.09.27 14:10 Anonymous_1-2-3-4-5MCU Movies Behind the Scenes Facts *Wanted to do this for fun* Day 16: Spider-Man: Homecoming
So i'm going to go on IMDB and look at each MCU movies behind the scenes facts and POST THE MOST INTERESTING ONES here, I will post each movie a day instead of what I did before where I did 10 posts, I will start with the first Iron Man and each day will be the next MCU movie after it, ending with Guardians 3, I will also do the Netflix Shows, Agents of Shield and Agent Carter
1. Jennifer Connelly voices the Spider-Man computer Karen. Her husband Paul Bettany had voiced the Iron Man computer J.A.R.V.I.S. She was also cast, because of her appearance in the John Hughes produced Career Opportunities (1991). "Homecoming" pays homage to Hughes' high school films, and casting Connelly was done as a tribute to his career. Connelly was also previously cast as Elizabeth "Betty" Ross in Hulk (2003). 2. Aaron Davis mentions he has a nephew. In the comics, Aaron Davis is the Ultimate Marvel universe version of the villain "The Prowler", whose nephew is Miles Morales, a.k.a. the second Ultimate Spider-Man. 3. In an interview from 2013, while promoting his upcoming film, How I Live Now (2013), Tom Holland was asked by a reporter what kind of role he might want to try next. When Holland replied, saying a project with action and humor would be of interest to him, the reporter asked if he would ever like to play a superhero. "Maybe Spider-Man, in ten years time," answered Holland. "The reboot of the reboot, if they do that." 4. Kenneth Choi (Principal Morita) also played the Howling Commando Jim Morita in Captain America: The First Avenger (2011). In the Principal's office, you can see photos of the Howling Commando, which hints that they are related, and he is his grandson. 5. Peter's homemade Spider-Man costume is very similar to Ben Reilly's first Spider-Man costume from the comics: a red jumpsuit with a blue sleeveless hoodie, with the belt and web shooters on the outside of the costume. 6. Nick Fury was originally going to be Peter's mentor in the film, with Samuel L. Jackson reprising his role, but they went with Tony Stark instead. However, Nick Fury was confirmed to be the new mentor in the sequel, Spider-Man: Far From Home (2019). 7. J.K. Simmons had previously expressed interest in returning to the role of J. Jonah Jameson (the role that he played in the Sam Raimi trilogy, and also voiced the character in Ultimate Spider-Man (2012)). However, once he was cast as Commissioner Gordon in Justice League (2017), all discussion of this happening ceased. 8. While Happy is overseeing loading the plane with objects from the Avengers Tower, he references Thor's belt, but is unable to pronounce it's name "Meg-... Meg-... Thor's magic belt!". The real name for the belt is Megingjörð. 9. Tom Holland spent a few days attending classes at the Bronx High School of Science in New York City to prepare for his role as Peter Parker. He used his acting coach's name as an alias. 10. Pictures of Howard Stark, Abraham Erskine, and Bruce Banner can be seen in Peter Parker's school. 11. The cast had to watch a John Hughes movie marathon to prepare. This movie is first and foremost a coming-of-age tale, so Watts turned to the master of such stories: John Hughes. "He gave us a lot of movies to watch", Holland said during an interview with PopSugar UK. "God, there's so many movies, and we basically just all sat down in my house in Atlanta, all the cast, and we just watched them all in one day, and just had like a Domino's day. It was amazing, The Breakfast Club (1985), Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986), Pretty in Pink (1986), there were loads of them." 12. First live-action "Spider-Man" film where his costume has resizable visors, providing more expressiveness to his appearance (in accordance with the comics). 13. The first Spider-Man film where Spider-Man has his iconic web wings from the comics. 14. Spider-Man never punches any of the villains he fights. He uses his webs, he counters his enemies punches which causes them to punch each other, he even kicks them, but he never punches them. 15. Aunt May's car number plate is AMF-1562. AMF is Amazing Fantasy, 15 is the issue number, and 62 is 1962, the year Spider-Man first appeared. 16. After showing a video of Captain America encouraging students, a gym teacher mentions that he's "probably a war criminal now", alluding to his situation at the end of Captain America: Civil War (2016), where he and other Avengers, who operated outside the Sokovia Accords are wanted by the government, and are in hiding. In the films shown in Spider-Man: Homecoming, Captain America appears in his costume from The Avengers (2012), and mentions being frozen in ice, suggesting they were made shortly after The Avengers (2012), which was the last time he wore that uniform, and would be easily recognizable as a potential positive role model. 17. The music that plays over the Marvel Studios logo is an orchestral version of the classic Spider-Man television theme song, written in 1967 by Paul Francis Webster and Robert "Bob" Harris for the animated television show. Here it has been adapted by Composer Michael Giacchino. 18. It's been observed that the previous Sony Pictures incarnations of the Spider-Man had little of the character's thought soliloquies from the comics, which robbed him of his introspective nature, because it was considered difficult to convincingly convey that kind of speech in the film medium. The Karen digital assistant character in Spider-Man's first suit from Tony Stark, solves that problem by giving Peter someone to talk to while in costume. Furthermore, the costume's adjustable eyepieces help give the Spider-Man's full face mask a degree of expressiveness to avoid the need to have him continually unmask for important scenes, thus reestablishing the character's visual universality. 19. The Vulture is the fourth member of the original Sinister Six gang to appear in a Spider-Man film. Members who have previously appeared are Doctor Octopus (in Spider-Man 2 (2004)), Sandman (in Spider-Man 3 (2007)), and Electro (in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014)). So far, only Mysterio and Kraven the Hunter have not appeared in live-action. In fact, Vulture, Doc Ock, Mysterio and Kraven were meant to appear in Sony's Amazing Spider-Man saga before its cancellation. 20. Vincent D'Onofrio had shown interest in appearing as Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin from Daredevil (2015). Kingpin is a shared villain from Spider-Man and Daredevil's rogue's gallery, and has appeared in many other Spider-Man media. 21. Tom Holland is the youngest actor (at nineteen) to be cast as Peter Parker. His predecessors, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, were twenty-five and twenty-six, respectively, when they were cast. 22. Peter is shown wearing boxer shorts when he puts on the suit given by Stark. However, Tom Holland said he wore a thong underneath, because the suit was skin tight. 23. Prior to its release, this movie saw the debut of numerous pitch-perfect posters celebrating Spidey's first film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Of them, the image featuring the hero leisurely lying next to a body of water wearing his high school academic decathlon blazer with a pair of headphones on stood out. As it turns out, the pose wasn't conceived of by a genius marketer, it was a picture of Tom Holland taken when he was entirely unaware. In an interview during a press junket in Mexico City, Holland explained that the poster was a picture snapped while he was napping on-set. "That is actually me asleep", Holland said. "That's not part of the movie, that's me, in-between takes, asleep. We were shooting this scene, and I was just really tired that day, and I was just asleep on the floor, and the photographer took a picture. So when they made that the poster, I was like 'What?! What the hell, guys?!'" 24. In the comics, Flash Thompson was a burly football player. This was updated to make him a wealthy smug character to fit modern portrayals of bullies. 25. Director Jon Watts has revealed that Peter Parker will be aged around fifteen years old at the time of the film. Tom Holland was around age nineteen to twenty at the time of filming. 26. Donald Glover (Aaron Davis) has voiced the Miles Morales incarnation of Spider-Man in the Ultimate Spider-Man (2012) animated series. 27. Michael Keaton describes Adrian Toomes as a resentful character: "Some people see themselves as victims. He sees himself like that. He has a probably strong argument that he never got a fair shot. A lot of 'Why not me?', 'Where's mine?'" 28. The "Homecoming" part of the title is a nod to the inclusion of the character within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 29. Michelle's literary tastes contain subtle allusions to either the plot or spiders.
she is first seen reading "Of Human Bondage" by W. Somerset Maugham. In that novel, the protagonist is an orphan living with his aunt and uncle.
later, she is reading "Invitation To A Beheading" by Vladimir Nabokov. In that novel, a condemned man awaits his execution, accompanied only by a spider in his cell.
Finally, during the Washington Monument scene, she is wearing a Sylvia Plath t-shirt. Plath wrote a poem called "Spider", and used spiders as images in other poems.
30. This is the first appearance of Cindy Moon (Tiffany Espensen), better known as in the comic as Spider-Man's female counterpart Silk. 31. The film's release date was originally meant for Thor: Ragnarok (2017), which was then moved to the November 3, 2017, release slot for Black Panther (2018). This move would ultimately change the release dates for several other Marvel films. 32. Before this film was officially announced, Sony planned to build a universe not too dissimilar to the Marvel Cinematic Universe using only Spider-Man characters. This included an untitled spin-off focusing on a female super heroine assumed to be Black Cat, a Venom film, a Sinister Six film, and two further installments to The Amazing Spider-Man series. Andrew Garfield was signed on to appear in at least two of these films. 33. While some fans complained about the hi-tech Spider-Man suit, many of the gadgets were ideas that appeared at one time or another in the Spider-Man comic books over the years. 34. Robert Downey Jr.'s eighth time playing Tony Stark. 35. Though the majority of the movie takes place in Queens, New York, much of the movie was shot in Atlanta, Georgia, with additional footage shot in Germany. A portion of the film was still shot in the real New York City, though. 36. Tom Holland had screentested with Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. before receiving the role. Once Holland finally got the role, Evans took to Twitter to write, "HUGE congrats to @TomHolland1996!!! Well deserved. We're lucky to have you." 37. On April 21, 2016, it was made official that Robert Downey, Jr., would reprise his role as Tony Stark. This also marks the first time that a Spider-Man film will include another superhero character from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 38. Martin Starr plays one of Peter Parker's high school teachers in this movie. He can briefly be seen in The Incredible Hulk (2008), and is credited as "Computer Nerd". Marvel and Disney usually doesn't re-cast the same actors in different Marvel Cinematic Universe roles, but has broken this rule a few times. However, Starr's role could be linked to the previous minor background character, in which case, he was getting a degree in the earlier film, and went into teaching in this one. 39. First solo Spider-Man film to not mention or feature Uncle Ben in any way. Peter Parker briefly alludes to bad things that have happened to his Aunt May, which may imply the loss of her husband, but he does not elaborate. 40. Prior to the Spider-Man deal, certain characters such as Georges Batroc, Christine Everhart, Ben Urich, Wilson Fisk, Mister Hyde, and Frank Castle have already shown up in the Marvel Cinematic Universe prior to the webslinger's arrival. In Ant-Man (2015), when Luis is recounting Falcon's search for Ant-Man, a woman had mentioned "we got a guy who jumps, a guy who swings, and a guy who climb up the walls", which is the first Marvel Cinematic Universe reference to Spider-Man. 41. Mark Hamill wanted to play The Vulture if Michael Keaton turned the part down. 42. During the initial encounter, Vulture appears in front of the moon briefly with his wings spread. This is similar to a scene in Batman (1989), with the Batwing flying in front of the moon. In both cases, the person using the "wing" technology is Michael Keaton. 43. Tom Holland confirmed in an interview with BBC Radio 1 that he struggled to say Spider-Man without it sounding like a southern accent during filming. As a result, him saying the name had to be dubbed later. 44. Midtown School of Science and Technology's year of foundation, 1962, is a reference to the comic debut of Spider-Man in the August 1962 issue of Amazing Fantasy. 45. Based on what Kevin Feige has said about the film, there are actually quite a few similarities between this film and Ultimate Spider-Man (2012): the film is not an origin story, Peter is in high school, Peter wears the classic Spider-Man costume, the film incorporates new villains, Peter has a non-stop wit as Spider-Man, Peter has awkward interactions with other superheroes, Peter is a street-level hero, and Peter struggles to balance his double life. 46. Matthew McConaughey expressed interest in the role of Norman Osborn, a.k.a. The Green Goblin, Spider-Man's archenemy. 47. The weekend before Tom Holland was announced as Spider-Man, he posted three videos on his Instagram account, where he showed off his backflip skills. Many websites started pointing this out after he was cast, praising him for his spider-like abilities. 48. This is the first Spider-Man film where the special effects for the character are not being produced by another company affiliated with Sony, the rights holder to Spider-Man. Industrial Light & Magic, which handles much of the visual effects for the Marvel Cinematic Universe films, produced the visual effects. 49. Alfred Molina expressed interest in reprising his role as Dr. Otto Octavius, a.k.a. Doctor Octopus in another Spider-Man sequel. 50. The man that Peter pursues to get info on the Staten Island Ferry heist has a profile that briefly lists one of his known aliases as "The Prowler", a reference to the Amazing Spider-Man villain of the same name. 51. Marisa Tomei said she was shocked to learn that Aunt May was much older in the comic books. However, her brother, a Marvel fan, explained to her that Aunt May was not a blood relative to Peter Parker. This made her realize that Aunt May could be any adult age, depending on how old she and Uncle Ben were when they got married. 52. This is the first Spider-Man movie to reference various elements regarding the web-fluid for Spider-Man's web-shooters from the original comics. The first nod, is that Spider-Man mentions that his web-fluid only lasts for two hours before it dissolves after it has been fired, whereas in the comics, it would last for one hour before it dissolved. The second nod to the comics, is the taser web, which is a reference to how Spider-Man has created different variations of his formula for his web-fluid at different points in the comics to create different types of webbing, often to deal with situations where his regular web-fluid was not enough. 53. When Sony was in the development stage of the Sam Raimi film series, with a fourth film on the way, John Malkovich was originally cast as the Vulture opposite Tobey Maguire as the title character, with Malkovich preparing for the role. However, the film was cancelled, once Sony opted to reboot the series with Marc Webb and Andrew Garfield. 54. Spider-Man's "spider sense" is never mentioned or referenced in any way, and during the course of events throughout, there is nothing that remotely indicates or suggests he even possesses this ability at all. Although in Captain America: Civil War (2016), Peter mentions that his senses are "dialed up to eleven". Later on, Avengers: Infinity War (2018) officially confirmed that Peter has "spider sense". 55. In the Marvel comic books, Damage Control is a private repair and reclamation company, specializing in dealing with damage caused by superheroes and supervillains, as well as various items left behind by either community. In the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Damage Control is a government organization, with the same general purpose. 56. Tony Revolori received death threats for playing the role of bully Flash Thompson. 57. This is the first Spider-Man movie where the Osborn family company Oscorp does not appear, or play any significant role. 58. Chapter Four of Phase Three in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 59. The first Marvel Cinematic Universe film since Captain America: The First Avenger (2011) to be distributed by a company other than Disney. 60. According to the Marvel and Sony deal, Kevin Feige was not compensated as an Executive Producer on the film. 61. When Spider-Man is observing the robbery of the Bank ATM. On the building wall behind him the word "Bagley" is spray painted in large letters. This is in reference to long time Amazing Spider-Man and Ultimate Spider-Man comic book artist Mark Bagley. 62. It is the second reboot of the Spider-Man film franchise, and the sixteenth film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 63. The Vulture is the first major Spider-Man movie villain who became a supervillain of his own accord. Doc Ock, Sandman, Venom, The Lizard, Elektro, and both Green Goblins all became villains as a result of experiments gone wrong, or other types of accidents beyond their control. (Rhino, Shocker, and The Tinkerer are all minor villains in the films.) 64. This film features two characters who carry the supervillain title "The Shocker": Herman Schultz the original Shocker, and Jackson W. Brice, who was the Shocker in The Spectacular Spider-Man (2008). (Brice was actually known as Montana in the comics, due to being a former cowboy who could wield a rope). 65. First time that Jon Favreau portrayed "Happy" Hogan in a non-Iron Man movie. 66. When Peter and Ned eavesdrop on the students discussing Spider-Man's identity, one of the students points out that Spider-Man could be "horribly burned" under his mask. This could be a reference to Deadpool, another Marvel hero, who has a very similar costume to Spider-Man, and is horribly scarred underneath his mask. Deadpool and Spider-Man often work together in the comics. 67. When Spider-Man is chasing Toomes' men in the white van, Spider-Man goes through a pool party where Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986) is showing on a big screen television, specifically the scene of Ferris running home. This is a double nod: one where, in this movie, Peter's run to catch the white van is similar to the scene in "Ferris", and one to real-life where the cast was made to watch John Hughes movies to get the essence of this movie as a coming-of-age movie. This is why Peter yells out "Good movie!", as Tom Holland watched it and liked it. 68. This is Composer Michael Giacchino's second comic book film, after Doctor Strange (2016). 69. Michael Keaton plays a character called The Vulture, which is a man in a bird costume. Coincidentally, Michael Keaton starred in the Best Picture winning film Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014), and that character is based off of Batman, which Keaton played in 1989 and 1992. 70. When the film was announced, lots of actors had been discussed online to play the part of Peter Parker (Spider-Man). Some rumored, some talked about, some for real, the list includes: Logan Lerman, Dylan O'Brien, Ansel Elgort, Taron Egerton, Freddie Highmore, Grant Gustin, Donald Glover, Zac Efron, Zayn Malik, Drake Bell, Nolan Gould, Mateus Ward, Vincent Martella, Nick Robinson, Sam Strike, Nat Wolff, Liam James, William Brent, Asa Butterfield, Timothée Chalamet, Daniel Radcliffe, Jack O'Connell, Andrew Garfield, Tobey Maguire, Eddie Redmayne, Tyrel Jackson Williams, Matt Lintz, Judah Lewis, Charlie Plummer, Charlie Rowe, Ivan Escott, and, of course, Tom Holland. 71. Every live-action Spider-Man movie released after 2010 so far, debuted ten years after all three Sam Raimi and Tobey Maguire movies. The Amazing Spider-Man (2012) was released ten years after Spider-Man (2002); The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) after Spider-Man 2 (2004); and Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017) after Spider-Man 3 (2007). 72. This is the first solo Spider-Man film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, although not the first adaptation of the character to interact with another character wholly originated in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Agent Phil Coulson, played by Clark Gregg, and appeared in multiple films from Phase I of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, also appeared in the animated series Ultimate Spider-Man (2012), along with various video game adaptations of Marvel properties that also feature Spider-Man. Gregg has reprised the role in the animated series, and voiced the character in multiple video games. 73. This is Jennifer Connelly's third comic-book film after Hulk (2003), and The Rocketeer (1991) (which was directed by Joe Johnston who also helmed Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)). 74. This is the first Spider-Man film to feature the villain "The Vulture". In Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 4, John Malkovich was set to play The Vulture, but the film was never made. In the DVD commentary for Spider-Man 3, Thomas Haden Church revealed they spoke about Ralph Fiennes and Sir Ben Kingsley playing The Vulture in a sequel. 75. The filmmakers have stated that this movie takes inspiration on John Hughes' comedies from the 1980s about teens and high school. One of John Hughes' films, Weird Science (1985), features a young Robert Downey, Jr. who plays Tony Stark in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. 76. When Spider-Man goes to confront Aaron Davis in the parking garage (where he webs Aaron's hand to the trunk), the license plate is UCSM01. This could stand for Ultimate Comics Spider-Man #1, the first appearance of Miles Morales as Spider-Man in the Ultimate Marvel Universe. Donald Glover, who plays Davis, was rumored to be playing Morales in a future Spider-Man movie. 77. Sony considered approaching Sam Raimi to direct a new trilogy of films, before this one was green-lit. 78. Adrian Toomes is never referred to as "The Vulture". However, the term "Vulture guy" is used by other characters. 79. The original proposal by Marvel was to have Spider-Man appear in several of their Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, in exchange for Columbia and Sony getting a cut of the profits, but it was rejected by Sony. However, the commercial disappointment of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014), partly due to poor decision calls by Sony, including Executive Producer Matt Tolmach (at one point during production, Andrew Garfield and Tolmach were not in good terms) prompted Sony to renegotiate the deal with Marvel, and restart the franchise again. 80. Asa Butterfield, Nat Wolff, Liam James, Timothée Chalamet, and Tom Holland were all in the shortlist of the much anticipated casting of Peter Parker. 81. On June 24th, 2015, Kevin Feige confirmed Spider-Man would appear in Captain America: Civil War (2016), and also revealed Marvel Cinematic Universe characters would appear in Spider-Man's solo film. However, he did not go into much detail about the new information. 82. This is the second time Robert Downey, Jr. makes a credited appearance in a Marvel Cinematic Universe film without receiving top billing. 83. While rumors flew all over the internet about the casting of Spider-Man, there were only three confirmed-by-the-source pieces of news on the matter:
Norman Reedus' son "Mingus Lucien Reedus" had been offered an audition, but turned it down.
Chandler Riggs auditioned, but did not get the part.
Tom Holland was cast as Spider-Man.
84. 4th Highest grossing Spider-Man movie to date, domestically. 2nd Highest grossing worldwide behind Spider-Man 3. 85. Steve Buscemi was rumored for the part of Uncle Ben, even though Marvel confirmed that the movie would not have an origin story. 86. The concept of Spider-Man's ability to change his web-shooter's settings through voice commands in the film, was adapted from the comics which was first seen in the first issue of the fourth volume of the "Amazing Spider-Man" series which was released at the end of 2015. 87. One of the code words for the Winter Soldier was "Homecoming" in Captain America: Civil War (2016). But the filmmakers of Civil War later said in an interview, that it was just a coincidence. 88. The first Spider-Man film to feature The Shocker (Herman Schultz), The Vulture (Adrian Toomes), and The Tinkerer (Phineas Mason). The Vulture is the main villain, and The Shocker and The Tinkerer serve as his henchmen. 89. The movie filmed in Atlanta in June 2016, a month after Captain America: Civil War (2016) was released. 90. The tinkerer builds all the weapons from materials collected by Damage Control including the Shockers gauntlet. In the scene outside the gas station the tinkerer reveals that the gauntlet came from the Lagos clean up. This is in reference to the beginning of Captain America: Civil War when Captain America fights Crossbones, therefore the Shocker gauntlet is built from Crossbones gauntlet. 91. Gary Oldman was considered for the role of The Vulture. The role went to Michael Keaton. Both actors appeared as characters in different Batman franchises. James Gordon and Bruce Wayne (Batman), respectively. 92. Of the main cast, only Michael Keaton was born before Spider-Man's comics debut in 1962. 93. Logan Lerman and Dylan O'Brien were rumored for the role of Peter Parker (Spider-Man). 94. On June 23, 2015, Marvel Studios officially announced that Tom Holland would be playing Spider-Man, and that Jon Watts would direct the film. 95. Asa Butterfield had been considered for the role of Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War (2016), but was deemed too tall for the role. 96. When Flash Thompson is the first to answer a question in class, but gets it wrong, the teacher responds, "See Flash? Being the fastest isn't always best." After playing the Scarecrow in the Dark Knight trilogy (which were adaptations from DC Comics material), Cillian Murphy showed interest in playing a Marvel Cinematic Universe villain role, specifically in this Spider-Man film. 2018.07.06 16:50 TheAdamMorrisonTONIGHT! The nicknameless nightmare Brad Tavares puts his r/mma Virtual Middleweight Championship on the line against Israel Adesanya!
Background: The idea here, originally created by user Skillbo_Baggins, is to create an "mmaVirtual Championship Belt" for each division. Each belt starts with a low level fight chosen by the community, and then mma can track each title as they work their way up through the ranks. Eventually it should unify with the UFC title, but maybe it will leave the promotion? Maybe be retired? If/When a belt unifies with the UFC belt we can place that lineage in a Virtual HOF and choose a new low level fight to start a new lineage.
The nicknameless nightmare Brad Tavares pushes his mma Virtual Middleweight Championship to the center of the table against Israel Adesanya! Its not the Virtual Championship fight we were most looking forward to this weekend...but it will bangarang nonetheless. Max said they only blessed when they attached to you... Yes we lost the unification title fight. But hopefully we'll see it set up again in due time. Still got the August 8th unification fight to look forward to. The Messenger lined up to take everything Mighty Mouse has worked for motherfucker.
